Kids

Both of mine from age 10 on spent a lot of time on the river paddling their own oc1. They also went with me to schools, rendevous etc and grew up thinking of themselves as full fledged paddlers. They were treated as such by the "adults" both on the river and around the campfires. They seem to have g...

Learning

I taught myself how to roll in c1. After that I did the same in oc1, this was in the early 80's. I gave up the c1 due to knee pain(or not enough dedication) and went back to oc. Then if you could roll a canoe everyone noticed, and often applaided. I seem to have lost the ability since the late 90's,...

Muddy Water

The first time I paddled a muddy river I was a little worried, couldn't see the rocks you know. No problem now unless it is so high you can smell the dirt in it(or the sewage runoff!) I do preferr it clear but not really an issue.

Raft Guides

These are the people who mix with the potential paddlers! If you could get them to not only talk up canoers but also know where the schools are it could be very good.

High Adventure Explorer Posts

When I lived in Cookeville Kevin Freeman and Norm Dukes had a High Adv post with ww canoeing their sport. There were close to a dozen kids, 12 to 17, who got got pretty good. They did have their own boats but most were beater boats that had been a parents (there are enough people who have old boats ...

Drysuit Care

Chris,
I always hang mine to dry after I get home. Use 303 on gaskets every 20 or so trips and before putting it up for the season. I hardly ever wash it, probably should.

1st D in canoe

Louie,
Dave Stout and others ran it in the mid 80's in oca's or sunbursts. They talked about the shuttle and that you needed to be able to ID the takeout above Bald River Falls. Robert Reeder, may have done it too. This was back when TSRA had a lot of hard core canoers.

The big difference in your pictures and Josh's is the obvious aggressiveness displayed in his and the attitude of the boat as he eddys. I would change to the original length thwarts too. For me creeks are more satisfying but big water is a blast.

Mr Blaze

This is just my opinion, so take it for what it's worth. The bigger water takes a different skill set than the technical stuff. I think creeks require more exacting boat control and also punish you worse and quicker for mistakes. That being said I also think the Cranberry is a little harder than the...

Barry and I paddle together a lot. Look at Ocoee Photos. The slanted rock to the left of the second hole was trying to disappear by h...
