Re: Which slalom boat??

... I did. But that doesn't mean the hulls will handle badly, or that you can't do citizen races like I did. Older hulls I would avoid include the Maverick and Maverick Plus. Fast, but too tubular. I suggest you call or email Davey and Jennifer Hearn at Maximum Whitewater Performance. They are ...

... but I'd prefer the small OC-1 in steepl places where hopping in and out are key. But squirting and cartwheeling are a hoot. And that slalom boat (Maverick) is fast... CHoices, choices... Good thing I don't have to go with just one...

Re: WTB beater slalom C1

If you can find a Maverick+ that might fit the bill - mine floats me fine at 220+. It takes a little more technique to turn it as quickly (stern volume makes pivoting harder) as some designs of similar vintage, but it also has more ...

Re: Would you ever...

I have bought quite a few boats without paddling them first, but I'd had a chance to look at them - first ME, Viper 12, Maverick, Whiplash, others... I can't think of a boat model that I've purchased that I didn't at least get to see up close.

... by visual inspection, unless hulls are fairly similar. If you want speed on a slalom course, that gets real complicated. I recall that the old Maverick c-1 was pretty fast in a straight line, but less successful when a lot of gates got thrown in the way.

c1: Maverick, although I found the Galasport Loco (Great Gonzo's boat) to be screaming fast

Re: Ok, what's the fastest whitewater boat you've paddled?

C-1 - a Maverick Plus - it flies (in a straight line) upstream and down. This is an "old rules" slalom boat. A wildwater boat would be faster, but significantly less stable and even less turnable. OC-1, plastic - Mad River ME ...

Re: Checking in after long absence...

Welcome back, Scott! If the Armada date is favorable, I might see you. As someone with a slalom boat (Maverick +) and a conversion (Remix 79), i'd encourage you to try out a conversion - not just for 15 minutes at the lunch stop (you probably won't like it), but for a day ...

... and pushed forward along with the cockpit. The newer boats are starting to take volume out of the bow as well and pushing it to cockpit area. The Maverick is a close enough relative to the SuperBatMax. Cutting down the Maverick may get you a pretty cool squirt type boat, but it will still be nothing ...

Ah, the Maverick... I had one once and now have a Maverick +. They haul butt in a straight line but take some coaxing to turn. But... they can be turned, even pivot turned with aggressive technique. Heck there may even be video ...

Not complicated, but somewhat laborious. One thing to check is whether Kaz or someone else has a cockpit rim you can install, and whether your Maverick cockpit is small enough that the new rim will fit over it. Then you could just cut out the appropriate aperture and you're in. The only thing ...

I have what I believe is an old maverick slalom boat and wonder if you think it would be worthwhile to cut it down to 3.5 meters in hopes that it will turn easier. Or is it just hopeless? One alternative , I guess, is to learn how to turn ...
