Re: paddle repair

If you have some wood shim stock, you could slip it in where it seems to make sense. The Gorilla Glue may be a good choice, using clamps to control expansion. Once the blade seems vaguely firm, if you have any zero budget spar or urethane varnish, the paddle should ...

... we can keep the I-VI scale. Just use it as a guideline, make your own decision when you get there. Just my thoughts. Hopefully they make some sense. Dave

... 5,6, or 7, or an 8, 9, or 10, and most of the people who would benefit the most from a 'wide-base' scale wouldn't get any benefits at all. Common sense, proper gear, and solid preparation is the only thing that will keep you out of trouble while trying a new run...a newfangled rapid classification ...

Re: Whitewater Rating System - Is It OK As Is?

... is a daunting task - there is no authority to approach (outside the AWA or ACA perhaps). The task is not impossible however, and small, common-sense steps can be taken. The first step is to recognize there is room for improvement. The second step would be to propose a simple solution. The third ...

Richard - any updates. I was talking to someone this weekend and they are thinking of ordering a couple boats but are unsure of timing and if it makes sense to get their hopes up! thx

Re: Unique opportunity for fiberglass constructor

... Not everyone out there is in the "what's in it for me personally" camp. It sounds like a great opportunity one way or the other for someone with a sense of adventure and the skills to match the job (whether teaching here or overseas). I wonder if anything could be set up through the Peace Corps, ...

Re: Pumps

"No boats!!" Agreed. I've always had a sense that the fish are laughing at us in our fancy-shpancy boats and weird outfits. I'm swimming in my birthday suit from now on. No pumps, helmet--no nothin. Not sure where I'll attach my gopro to share ...

... This is a left handed gift because I fully intend to paddle this boat. I'm 5"9' and 190. Everything that I have read about this boat seems to make sense for the both of us.

Re: Is my paddle too long?

... see... try keeping your upper arm straighter, and getting more of the paddle in the water. If it goes too deep then yes, a shorter stick may make sense. A GENERAL guideline for paddle length is that when you sitting in your boat the distance from the top of your shoulder to the water should be ...

... here in the Portland area really qualifies for that. Which is why we used to pay Bob Foote to come around. Now that he's retired, it might make sense to import someone else. I've got too much on my plate currently to be the point guy on that effort.

I feel these folks are needing more positive reinforcement and camaraderie than actual instruction. ...

... watch them closely. It looks like a very sweet boat and I want one. It seems to have a tiny bit less hull speed than the Ignitor which would make sense since it is a shorter boat. It turns very quickly and looks stable and dry. If your primary goal is to race then the Ignitor is probably the way ...

... I wouldn't. Depending what you pack it might be tight, forcing you to pack in smaller bags instead of convenient larger packs. If that makes sense. Pretty much every trip I go on will have a 60L barrel, 30L barrel and a pack or wannigan. The 30L might change to a 60L for more food on longer ...

As Rand C1 said, "it's a low brace roll" and the last part of this maneuver is, in every sense of the word, a low brace recovery - albeit from a very extreme position. Practice low braces prior to trying to roll. It looks to me like your ...
