I must be a bit weird- I don't think of my knees at all when I roll (I don't even really know what they're doing).
I just visualize myself pushing down on the paddle with my head, by bending at the waist.

I use car-door molding to protect the edges of my fiberglass bandit. It's a long u-shaped strip of plastic used to protect the edges of car doors; you can buy it at most auto parts stores. The molding only takes a few minutes to put on, and it usually lasts for several months of hard paddling before...

The bumping of this thread reminded me that I used Jim Michaud's "painter around the rock" method to self rescue on the Deerfield Dryway earlier this year. I was swimming alongside the boat, saw a rock coming up, pulled out the painter and swam towards the other side of the rock, and met my boat in ...

I paddle an Outrage, and see alot on the river; haven't noticed a difference between newer and older boats. But there is a difference between the wood-gunnel and vinyl-gunnel versions. The wood-gunnel versions are noticeably fuller in the bow and stern; I've heard this is because the vinyl gunnels M...

Beereddy- Did you say that you've never paddled a canoe? If that's the case, I wouldn't even bother to demo the Zoom or the Prelude- with no canoeing experience, you will find those two boats almost impossible to handle. (If you do demo them, it will probably turn you off canoes completely!) I agree...

Paddling against the arc
Sometimes when I'm going straight while "paddling against the arc" (the technique where you lean the boat to your onside a bit, then paddle using only forward strokes with no correction) I find my boat (OC1) veering towards my onside. I know this is caused because the PATA technique builds up a wave...

FS- Dagger Quake/Atom pedestal
I have the saddle and pedestal assembly from a dagger quake- I think it's the same one that goes in the Atom.
I redid the outfit in my quake, so I don't need this anymore.
I'll take any reasonable offer. I'm in New Jersey.
