I learned to paddle in muddy rivers like the Credit, so opening your eyes was pointless.
I go by feel and muscle memory mostly, but have opened my eyes like jakke to assist in orientation.

Re: Esquif Vertige (not X) converted to Tandem?
I saw an Ocoee tandem on the Upper Telico in March. The boat inspired me to turn my Nitro into a tandem, with triple saddle to retain it as a solo capable boat. Almost have everything glued in (need warmer weather) and looking forward to paddling it this summer. I'll post some pix when I get the wor...

Re: Madawaska Kanu Centre - Week of Rivers
Anything MKC does is first rate, at least in my opinion.
Only issue might be the lack of water here this year would preclude you from paddling some of our better river options.
There's always good stuff to paddle, I'm just betting the best runs will be too low by this June.

Re: gunnels holes in wrong place
My boat's got a HUGE hole in the top.
Still floats OK when it's right-side up.
Happy paddling.

Another rolling question...
So I was out playing in a small shallow hole the other day and got flipped to my off-side. Not a problem, as I'd flipped and rolled 7 other times that session, however on this particular flip I got caught on a shallow rock shelf. When I flip, I automatically tuck to the bow and use the momentum to g...

Re: Ontario spring melt?
Dave,
To assail your fears; we've had such little snow (and ice) over the past few years, those runs usually open up due to rain.
There is a little bit of snow further north, but I am concerned about the Hwy #7 runs coming in.
Mackfest may be cancelled yet again.

Re: ALF t-shirt winner is.....
Thanks guys. I'll wear it with "pride".
That's a different kind of parade.
Really looking forward to this year's ALF.
Please keep your eyes out for a short, fat, bald guy swimming most rapids.

Re: ALF Stickers! (t-shirts)
Will there be a special prize for doing most of the Tellico upside down, cause that's how I'll probably be running it!
Great looking sticker Paul. Thanks for your work on it.

"Jeff - I have improved a lot since we last boated together."
Matt; you were fun to paddling with last ALF and I look forward to seeing how you're stylin the rapids now.
I'll see all y'all in March.

I may not be able to make the Telico race on the Sunday, but really want to paddle that river.
Any chance a group would want to paddle it a second time during the week?

Re: dry pants
I had a $1000 swim once using a dry pant/top combination;
after being trapped in ice-cold water for ~20 mins, I went a bought a dry suit!
Pricey, but unless you paddle in Mexico or CR, a dry suit is a much better option in my humble opinion.

Re: If you use 'em, how tall are your ankle blocks?
I use a bulkhead system, and for my ankle blocks I just cut the ferrules off 2 foam gunnel blocks (the ones people use who don't have roof racks) so the bottom was flat and glued them into my Spanish Fly. The height is 3-4" and the hole in the middle allows for flexion, without having to carve the b...
