Yeah....very tame ;) I guess our new boaters will have to search the forum for all the good stuff instead of having it all the goodies in one thread ;). I've had a couple of people paddle my boat before...fun to watch when they get in a little bit of squirrely water. It's a wonderful learning...

Paddling near West Jefferson, NC ???

I'm going to be in the West Jefferson area, camping with friends and family this weekend. I'd love to get a little paddling in, but not sure what is there. I'd love to paddle something cass II - III at least one day while I'm there on an OC1. If you have any recommendations, I'd appreciate it. Thank...

Wow!! Maybe one day I'll be able to pull off some runs like that...hahahahahaha!! OK...so probably not, but as easy as he makes it look...I might eventually have to try :)

I had similar problems with some outfitting on an OC I have. The previous owner was more into C1 and was accustomed to their foot being basically flat underneath them. Instead of toe blocks, the side of the saddle was added on to and then trimmed out to allow the feet to be tucked in to allow a roll...

Don't quite have the OC roll down yet, so I swim when I have to...I fight it hard, but sometimes I still go down. The sad thing is, it's generally not in a big feature that you feel justified in swimming...some little insignificant nothing that you pay no mind too that bites you. And nope, never hav...

Proper new OCer Education :P  :P

In the past few days, we've had some wonderful questions from some new boaters...good questions and answers. However, I think it's our duty to new boaters to prepare them fully for the real world. For months, they will be struggling with eddy turns, peelouts, surfing, unintentional side surfing, swi...

It's really not that hard to learn, at least not the basic stuff. You will get a feel for your balance and get confident in the blade in no time on the water. Often at the put in, you will see boaters rocking back and forth, getting a feel for their boat (sometimes paddle out of the water). Once tiy...

Days on the water are the best way to get there...glad to see you made it out onto the water this weekend...more than I managed :( 1) I'd say the best thing is to know that your paddle is your best friend...sleep with it in your bed if you need to;) but learn to not let it go :) I guess the main thi...

I have one sitting idly. I'm in eastern NC. If interested, send me an e-mail (jscottl67@yahoo.com). If you just need one for the race, I'd be willing to loan it to you for the race and then let you make a purchase decision in a little less of a rush if you want.

A possibility. No rain here yet, but keeping an eye to the west. Takes about 16 hours to really peak after the rain starts, so hopefully some heavy rain hitting about now :D

Yep, forgot to mention just plain ferrying instead of back ferrying. I can't backpaddle far either...more than anything just slowing down to give them some space and moving over to an eddy without spinning around. Of course, paddling an Ocoee, you can spit in the water and then catch the eddy behind...

I'm sure you'll get different responses from others, but here's a stab at them; 1) A lot of thowbags have a web strap with a quick release..clip it to the thrwart in front of you. You can grab it quickly from there. 2) I don't always carry a spare with me (bad boy I know). You can try a slightly sho...

Mike, I'm sure that there are a lot of reasons for the lack of paddlers at the armadas. Here are, off the cuff, the biggest 3 I can think of. Distance - NC is a big state, 7+ hours from one end to the other. Relatively speaking, you are almost in Va. Whitewater experience - You have Weldon Falls in ...
