For you, maybe, but I'm fine in the kneeling position.
Sitting in a kayak, however, will make my back seize up after about 20 minutes...

Re: airbag lacing

You can also glue webbing loops to the hull: http://www.canadierforum.de/t9050f4-Pro-und-Cons-versch-Auftriebskoerper-Befestigungsarten-1.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I did something like that to my boats. I would check the glue adhesion to the hull first though. http://www.w...

Re: airbag lacing

Deburr the holes so that the edges don't abrade the cords.

Re: Saddle height too high?

Work on stretching your legs and ankles and see if over time you can lower the saddle. Slalom racers go as low as 4.5" (probably lower for some!) most of mine are 6-8" depending on boat width. Most C1 slalom racers now have seats that are in the 2"-3" height range (Casey's is closer to 2"). Even at...

Re: Cheapest canoe ship from MA to Alberta!

Alberta's a big province. If the trucker has to go 100 miles out of his way just for you, it's going to be expensive (like $2/mile, each way)

Re: Need a new PFD

I am looking hard for a new PFD also. My main gripe with the current fashion in PFDs is that they do not seem to be designed with the C1 roll in mind, (which they have not) they have become very bulky out front, especially so when the chest pocket is filled up. This bulk is in my eyes counterproduc...

...But, it still seems, you took a boat everyone thinks as super-slow, and made it quite-quick by simply narrowing it 2". Probably your wetted length increased a bit as a result of the narrowing? R. Good question. I suspect most of the difference comes from the narrower width combined with the ligh...

Re: Dagger Cascade = ??

Bob Putman says his skinny Cascade is faster on a slalom course than his previous slalom boat...all he did, I believe, was chop two inches off the width and make it light. Same soft chines, same rocker. Roy I wouldn't claim that it is always faster than a slalom boat, but under certain circumstance...

I use very thin Akona booties due to my required high-flexibility for C1. I put a layer of Sportsman or Marine Goop on the high-wear areas. Renew as necessary...

Re: Vinyl Adhesive

A word of caution when using Vynabond on Royalex. Apply only in thin coats and let partially air-dry before mating the parts. Too much adhesive volatiles can delaminate the vinyl from the substrate.

Re: Slalom C1 Comparison? Vajda MM Max, One, iScream

Ilya Stein borrowed the boat at the Blackwater and finished 2nd, so it couldn't be too bad. Kaz doesn't want to do closed boats any more (fume-wise inside seaming), but he may be persuaded to make the two halves. I also have angles that can be bonded in so that the inside seaming work can be ...

Re: Slalom C1 Comparison? Vajda MM Max, One, iScream

GBaum,

If you are going to the Blackwater this weekend, there should be a couple of new designs to try out, including my hybrid (which I suspect is more appropriate for easy local races).

Re: Slalom C1 Comparison? Vajda MM Max, One, iScream

Just some thoughts about 2 of the boats from what I read and have heard (I have paddled neither). Anything built for Michel Martikan is going to feel tippy as his boats are not built with stability in mind. The iScream should be a larger volume boat which will make it more stable/easier to balance ...

Re: Suggestions for Slalom C1 and C2

Shorter boats have no advantage on the kind of courses that you run, so I wouldn't get obsessed with getting the latest design. If you do get a newer design, make sure that it is also to the latest narrower spec, so at least you'll gain some speed there.

Re: Curved versus Flat Blade

Typically, the difference is small, but I suspect that most spoons are slightly narrower than their flat equivalents. Mostly though, I much prefer the smoother underwater recovery of the spoon, but that's from the different shape of the horizontal cross-section. It's been a long time to recall thoug...
