Topic: question on racing OC nats (citizens race)?

It’s been a few years since I’ve been to Nationals, but the only class exclusions were age, gender and boat type. The Citizen class is to encourage new racers, but you aren’t forced to enter it. I don’t read anything in the rules that state otherwise. I suggest asking to use an Ocoee from Al, Jeff, ...

FIBArk 2011

Bonnie G and me completed the 26 miles yesterday, see: http://www.fibark.net/fibark_history.php We were the only open canoe to do so. Our unofficial time was 2:49 with an average speed of 9 mph. The flow at Wellsville was 3600 CFS. We stopped only twice. Once to bail after Bear Creek and next to rec...

You are likely thinking of the Gunnison Gorge: http://eddyflower.com/RunDetailstabs.aspx?RunId=155 It's a transition canyon with dam controlled flow which I usually paddle in the spring or fall. It's also a wilderness which isn't common for CO. A lot of rafters float it for the fishing, but the high...

I'll be up for boating before and after the National's. I know of a few others that will be paddling afterwards, too.

Did you have preferences as far as runs?

I get out on the Ark a lot. I'm leaning towards heading further north.

From Jeff Oxenford: Due to expected high water, we have canceled the Nationals at Golden. NOAA/UDSA have estimated the probability at 50% that the flow will be greater than 1200 cfs, and 75% that the flow will be greater than 1000 cfs. on July 8,9, 10. We are looking at moving the race to Salida, an...

It was a fun race on Saturday even with the poor weather and low flow. There were nine OC1s and four OC2 teams along with lots of highschoolers in decked boats with a total of 63 racers. Whittern won OC1 with a 7 sec lead and one touch. Click and Oxenford had the best OC2 time. They were 48 sec slow...

Seems like you answered your question.

This Saturday's race is being organized by Nate Lord and on the same course, but a USACK event. He's also encouraging OC classes.

There are a few GC rapids without clean lines especially for oarboats. Hance, Horn, and Lava come to mind. House Rock is the first test for a boatman in a big boat and you usually get to it on day two. It’s a tight line to miss the big hole. I’ve seen that hole flip an 18’ raft with no problem. You’...

A comparable winter that's being mentioned was in '83-'84.

Clear Creek in Golden didn't peak unusually high in '84, but had flows of 500+ CFS all summer.

It's looking like there'll be 600+ CFS for the WWOC Nationals.
