Other reasons I'm not attracted to the long, triple saddle is that (even with cutting-in channels) it creates a bit of a dam to water movement from side to side; and, if I'm going to use the canoe for solo, especially solo river tripping, it'll be nice to lift the second saddle right out. Also, don'...

The VertigeX when factory outfitted has the stern paddler further towards the stern and further from the bow paddler position than most tandem setups I've seen. Perhaps they expect a heavier stern paddler, or the boat design works best with the wieght shifted a bit aft? Thanks Jim, I haven't seen a...

OC2 saddle placement?

I know we'll have to test the trim for ourselves, but... Does anybody have any 'typical' measurement/guidance on where the saddles should be placed in a 14' ww canoe (VertigeX, Caption, Probe 14, Nexus, etc.)? I'm curious to know the range different paddlers use. For example, how far ahead of the bo...

Nam,

Skook will always be there. Whitewater festivals/events that include canoeists are hard to come by (at least on the westcoast).

Last year was the 1st annual, and had great reviews!! This year the Whitewater Kayaking Assoc. has been working more closely with some canoe organizations, clubs, and retailers, etc.; as a result, the festival will now be more inclusive - offering more runs for (mortal) canoeists and even an interme...

Thanks a lot guys!! It'll be great to have this info, not too mention the photos and links, once I start messing around with all this hardware. Wouldn't you know, I'm receiving a package from Mohawk tomorrow - shoulda included the extension and rods! I'll try to find something similar locally. The f...

why the adjustable saddles? to switch between solo and tandem? light vs heavy bow paddlers? All that, for which really only the stern saddle needs to move much. But if I use it for solo tripping/camping, or even if I'm just soloing it on day run, it might be nice to just lift away the bow saddle. P...

Thanks Bill, I have the anchor strips for the saddles, and I'll get a helper. For the foot braces, I'm with you on the foam extension behind the saddle, but then how do you attach them: A threaded bolt from brace-to-brace through the foam? Install wooden dowels and screw them on? Other? For the thig...

Attaching 'Yakima' foot braces

I'm installing moveable saddles in an OC2 (Esquif VertigeX). The range of travel for the stern saddle will be too much for adjustable toe blocks, so I need sliding foot braces attached to the saddle. How should I secure the braces to the saddle? Also, for the front anchor of thigh straps for a movea...

Bill,

It's not your business' concern if your customer provides a US shipping address - let them worry about the crossing/mud. But it might be nice to suggest the option in case they have cross-border friends.

I'd try to find somebody from nearby U.S.A. (ND) who paddles in Winnipeg and arrange to have the boat shipped through them. Or even just ship it to a border town and have the Winnipegger pick it up and bring across. Cross-border shipping is an expensive hassle. Suggest these things to the buyer in c...

Craig, There are a couple of C1ers in Winnipeg (literally: 2, Gerry and Brian), you should try to hook up with those locals &/or friends (Paddle Power?), the kayakers at that Manitoba Whitewater site may also be interested in getting out and showing you around. Have fun (and if kayakers Jamie or Mic...

outrage

I was shopping used and I'm not too fussy, but I ended with an Outrage, and I like it. I'm also about 210lbs, and I'm glad I didn't go for an X! An Esquif Nitro might also be a good one. Haven't seen as many Bells around to compare, but don't be scared of the Outrage at your weight. If/when I trade ...

I'm about 5'10". I've always used a 58" for OC (my saddle is about 9"), and also have a 57" that I like. I don't really notice the difference between 57" and 58". 58" definitely felt long & awkward in C-1, when you're right there at the water and in a lower saddle, especially for going offside. For ...
