Low brace, elbows above pushing,.... Use your non-power face; float out your blade and your shoulders far & high, and square your shoulders to the bottom; forehead on shaft; roll - bringing the boat underneath you, and your hips over the righting boat; lastly, slink your shoulders, blade and head lo...

update
Michael et. al. Here's an update on repair and products for interior stress-cracks on the inside of a Royalex hull... 3M urethane adhesive works better than PC7 epoxy. 2yrs ago I repaired some stress cracks in my hull (propogated from alongside a thigh-strap d-ring & a similar d-ring stress due to a...

If you can't get a Bell Ocoee or find an old Dagger, I'd suggest Mohawk' Viper 12 might be a decent gamble. Or, wait and test out Esquif's Zephyr. Other than that, MR offers you the Outrage (unless they start producing more old Dagger hulls that the parent company owns - they should do something to ...

GJ, I used an overall bib with a roll-together drytop. I even tried it with 2 drytops on - a shortie and full sleeves. I also had a velcro weight belt / back support thing that I'd crank around to keep it all tight & together... (the rivers on the BC coast are cold!) It's much better than just a wet...

I haven't seen a picture either, and I didn't mean to make a big deal out of chines, it's just that the description makes it sound like more of an entry-level boat than a play machine. But I like their direction . . . a Zoom X in Twintex? Mostly, it's just nice to hear of some promise (and actaul pr...

Esquif Zephyr (Twintex material)
Anyone seen a Zephyr? http://www.esquif.com/index.php?mod=modeles&id=26 Maybe the hull's lines are a little too soft-chined for this crowd? But, the new (Twintex) material must be of interest. A composite/plastic combo, lighter and stronger than Royalex, but maybe difficult to repair. Insight? Expec...

otter and sequel

Nobody?
I'm in BC (where Hellman is from) and I've seldom seen any Otters, never paddled one.
I'm surprised we haven't seen more of the Otter, and same for Evergreen's Sequel. They look like reasonable OC-1s, but never seemed to catch on?

I'm about 5'9" and 210lbs. Seems there lots of paddlers in the 190+ range looking for larger playboats (but who can't afford a new Drakkar)... Most responses I've heard favour the Score and Z for a river-runner/playboat. Others like the large i3 and s8 for more play. And the large h3 or Nomad for cr...

OB, Pick up "Thrill of the Paddle" by Mason and Scriver. It's not video, but the photos and descriptions of pretty good, including discussions of the basic OC roll, solo and tandem, and variations and when you'd want to use them (i.e., coming under the back deck, hand roll, high brace, etc. - most o...

Agreed that an OC roll is basically a low brace. And once you've got a solid brace, you won't go over too much on your on side. If you do go over, no real "set up" is required since your low brace is already there - just put your head in, settle over your low brace position, square to the bottom, fl...

For the record, I added an extension (~6") to the saddle and attached the footbraces with rods and nuts. I was able to just push/thread the bolts right through the foam. I'll use that saddle for the bow position (toe cups would overlap with solo-position's knee pads) and the solo position, and I'll ...

I should try to post some photos of the process. Northwater sells adjustable saddles with holes and straps through them, and vinyl anchor strips that you glue to the hull. You basically just cinch it down tight. If I find it wobbly at all, I will add some Velcro too. You can look at the products on ...

Hi Roger, Thanks for the additional info. I'm about 210 too, and I paddle a 12' Outrage, which I like just fine. Here are a few ideas of common ww solo boats that might suit you; since you seem willing to adapt, I'm skipping the big, entry-level boats (like the old Impulse, Genesis, H2Pro, and the V...
