CJT, My opinion is that the probe 12 will bee a little to big for you. I dont think I have ever paddled a Ovation, but I paddled a probe 11 and I was right around your weight at the time, and I tried a probe 12, the 11 was much easier to control (you are taller than I am, so take that into account)....

Back in the day I paddled a probe 11, and basically ran all the big creeks and big water that I have ever and will ever do in thaqt boat. I wore two of them out. They are a darn good design, and I do not know why I switched to something else. Any body have any insight to how a Rodeo compares to a pr...

oc1paddlr i think we probably know each other as there are not too many people in Gainesville who paddle open boats. I was actually thinking I would take her on the lower Chestatee (60-400) for the first river trip. Have you gotten out in any of this rain? I went and did the east fork of the little ...

Thanks for all the response's. I think that the intimidation factor of being in a c2, might rule that out for my eldest daughter, not to mention the fact that I hate packing myself into a C1. I'm not trying to develope her into a first class paddeler, just want to get her out on the water to give he...

Well I am certianly not a proponent of making runs that you are not comfortable with, and I have walked the bull as many times as I have run it. Concerning the "hike" up from woodall, I have always offerd to carry my friends kayak's if they will carry my canoe. This method has been met with some res...

It is much easier to run the bull than to portage. It looks Intimidating, and truthfully, it is, but if you break it into 2 sections its not so bad. First, you work towards the left bank, and catch the eddy top left. be sure and paddle and watch out for the hole just above the eddy which can tend to ...

I have never been able to use foot pegs. I lay my feet flat on the floor with ankle lifts. It is comfortable , but like you say , you dont have any positive preasure holding you in the boat. I found some foot "cups" on Rutabega.com that I am going to try. They are not here yet so I am not sure how t...

The Gauly and the New typically have a lot more water than the Chattooga, so missing rocks is a little more doable. I would love to have a glass boat, but I don't see it happening. i will just keep rubbing the plastic off my boats. BTW i have been known to run the Chattooga at really, low levels, ki...
