Re: straps vs bulkhead
To muddy the water a bit, what about knee boots. I'm comfortable in them , they didn't hinder rolling and are easier to get into than double straps. Mine are 10 to 12" wide so cover a lot of my thigh. That being said I have to work on the fit of the bulkhead in my new boat after each trip. I get it ...

Re: Why use Flotation???
When Billy Harris was sponcered by Mohawk, early 1990's, He would do mystery moves in a viper, using no bags, only the foam saddle for floatation, in the hole at Cats P J's on the Ocoee. He got what I thought was pretty good down time.

Re: deck plates?
Rh, If you're talking about the near verticle part of the bow where the dent is, don't be to concerned about it. That is probably the strongest part of you hull and should be able to take a lot of abuse. If the nylon has been scraped off you could paint over that part and go from there. Also as you ...

Outrage differences
Wood trimmed ones used to be wider at ends, by design. This made them some dryer and probably had a little more rocker. MR stopped doing this a few years ago and now shape is same for vinyl and wood. also as with all ABS boats the ABS formula was changed 10 or so years ago and the new is not as toug...

Re: Hip Replacements and C Boating
Charley,
Steve Lee in Nashville area, used to be in TSRA, had a hip replacement 1 or 2 years ago. He still paddles. If you can't find him in an old directory Rocky will have contact info. Good luck with it.
Also Chris Arp had both knees replaced but hasn't paddled oc since.

WOW
Thats the best quality video I've seen. I love the guy in the L'edge ,just after Eli, who caught the room and came out. I expect his heart had a fast pace about then.

Yep
The first rapid on Whites Creek in Tennessee is unofficially called Banzai Squirrel. We were looking at it in a flood, 6+feet in 1990. We walked out on a small bluff overlooking that rapid and suprised a squirrell who leaped 30 feet into the creek and swam, sucessfully, the rapid. Thus the name. It ...

30 years ago, Long Boats, decked and open inner tube floatation, styrofoam was cutting edge. Tougher royalex then we drug the boats, they were to heavy to carry. Decked boats had round cockpit openings. The paddling community was much smaller then. Comradery was more evident then cause you knew ever...

It was Nolan in the first boat, you can tell by the finess.
it was Eli who got the surf, not sure if it was on purpose or reaction but still great
The second boat's owner probably wouldn't swim there just to give Alex a prop for his show. She's run that a lot and doesn't swim much.

Mohawk Scamp
I change my Scamp to tandem. It was very wet but worked fine. On class 2 rivers like Hiwassee it did fine. We ran the Ocoee in it, combined weight 350# and would do fine for 100 yds then have to empty. We did successfully make the elevator move at top of Broken nose. It also surfed good till it fill...

Outrage vs Ocoee
I've been paddling an Outrage, Mine say Ol Age, since the mid to late 90's. I tried the Ocoee before the Outrage and and went with the Outrage for several reasons. The Ocoee was to twitchy ie to susceptable to cross currents/diagonal waves the Ocoee spins quicker but to me this wasn't always a god t...
