Re: Teaching Canoe Rolling?

Einar, I don't think my evolution should be taken as a representation. This for a couple of reasons I have a canoe roll for several years, in the pool, but it's not reliable on the river That is caused by a couple biomechanical issues I'm quite interested in biomechanics, so kayak rolling helped to ...

Re: European CBoat Armada 2014

Renting gear won't be much of an issue, finding an OC1/C1 probably is, unless you hook up with some European paddler who has a spare boat ;-). France & speaking English is not always a good match, but Durance area is generally ok. And rivers put-in and take-out are quite well marked, it's a frequent...

Re: Teaching Canoe Rolling?

I can't tell without seeing footage of them, but I can tell about my personal experience. I've been struggling really really long with my roll. Starting to learn a kayak roll showed me I was missing the strength and coordination to drive from the hips long enough to get a decent roll. So your soluti...

Re: European CBoat Armada 2014

Craig, if you have to travel, you could also consider crossing the French border, heading to the Durance valley. There you have a wide variaty of sections going from I to V/VI. There are some more famous runs, with a bit more volume on the Durance (rabioux wave). And some really nice smaller technic...

Re: European CBoat Armada 2014

It depends a bit on the location, but there are always paddlers of all skill levels. A bit less in the harder regions, but Soca does not really account as a harder region I think. I expect there will be a lot of people at the 2014 armada, and it'll probably last longer then the usual 4 days, people ...

Re: easy DIY drysuit gasket replacement.

Yups, I can confirm that. Even though I had to be more carefull with my double sided tape positioning then I can see on your images. I had to use small strips and a lot more, otherwise the suit would not stick to the disk... . Similar systems exist for wrist/ankle cuffs, just have to find the right ...

Re: Drysuit cleaning

Mesh bag: YES

Normal detergent NO

You'll lose the breatghing capacity of your gore-tex when using normal detergent. Been there, done that. You don't want to wreck a $1000 gore-tex suit just to save $1 on a washing sequence.
Just use some dedicated gore-tex soap.

Re: Drysuit cleaning

I also need to clean my suit. I purchased Nikwax Tech Wash to clean it, but am not sure if I should hand wash the suit or use my washing machine. Has anyone washed a Kokatat GMER in a front loading machine using Tech Wash? Yups, I did 2 months ago, no problem whatsoever. And applied the nixwax gore...

Re: Training For Paddling & Common Paddling Injuries

Paddling is fairly single-sided, and I do not mean single-bladed. Basically you want to follow a full-body training program, and focus maybe even more on the muscles you don't use for paddling, or the opposing paddling muscles. Especially if you're interested in a long paddling career. In theory it'...

Re: Tips for an intermediate surfer?

One of the best ways I know of, to get those micro corrections going, is to hit a wave, or even just some current, with someone holding your canoe on a line from a low bridge or so. You have to have the right venue, but it's a brilliant way to practice those tiny corrections, rotation, ... . for an ...

Re: Tips for an intermediate surfer?

Great work! I think you enter the main-wave a little bit too high, causing the bow to catch the falling water and loose the angle. But it's easier said then done 8) . Another thing to try is rotate a bit more into that stern-draw. Now it's a lot of leaning back, and extending your arm backwards, wit...

Re: Tips for an intermediate surfer?

Another wacko, maybe controversial point of view. You can get better at surfing, by not surfing  . No, seriously, surfing is the sum of a whole lot of skills, with limited margin for errors. You need trim, tilt, rotation, paddle postion, paddle drag, ... . You can get better at all these t...

Re: An Honest Salesman

I think the L'Edge is quite a pain in the *** as well, to paddle straight, to accelerate, and that's why I love it :D. In that perspective is a way more strict teachter then the Prelude. In the prelude you have a gray zone, in the quality of your strokes. In the L'Edge it's quite black or white. Put...
