Kayak roll? What the &**%$#. @>)))

... and then a video, and then into the pool. I got a lot out of it, made me look at my canoe roll with a different POV. Definitely got a better feeling for the effect of efficient technique over muscle (my OC style roll) A friend came along to the session, new to kayaking and about 1-2 years ...

... a specific boat suited to exactly where you paddle? The atom will accelerate much quicker than your L'edge either way though, so you will get that feeling either way.

Re: ... 'cause it's all about the water.

Yes John, Pillsbury is a great class III run. It's a deep, remote feeling canyon with lot's of fun little rapids. I spent many many days on that one. The only thing keeping it from stardom is the longish shuttle and lack of healthy flows. 300 is ok, but it ...

Re: Tips for an intermediate surfer?

By neutral boat, do you mean no tilt (side to side), or, even trim (not leaning back or forth)? I have a feeling TonyB and Milkman mean the former, but please correct me if I've misunderstood. I've had another go at these waves (especially Sweet Lips), and was consciously working ...

Re: Wet suit vs dry suit

... W, you have climbed into a Suburban Myth about wet suit insulation. If you get water between you and the wet suit neoprene, and that water gets to feeling warm, that does NOT indicate that it is insulating you. Water will conduct heat outward from your skin to the wetsuit much faster than will ...

... serious surfing but the Blink will be quite good too. I think you might like how the Blink catches eddies a bit better maybe....seems I recall you feeling like the L'Edge's rounded hull had a feel you didn't like as well? I didn't get a chance to surf the Option but it appears great from videos ...

... a couple longer IV rapids but in a drop-and-pool character. There are so many factors involved: nature of the river, water levels, prior paddling, feeling of the day, group you're paddling with, ... . And local ratings too. What is a standard class III in Norway, I would rate quite often as a class ...

... will allow you to pull the t-grip farther across, which may help keep the momentum going. Also, pulling the t-grip up makes the blade dive down. Feeling some weight on the blade at the end is normal. Feeling it early on is wrong.

Follow up - OC2 saddle mods for a kid, with photos

... 9 year old son. It's pretty slapdash, made out of random bits of foam, but it works great. My son says it's very comfortable and secure - no more feeling like he's going to fall out of the boat during dynamic eddy turns. We've done plenty of those just to make sure :D. The setup also worked for ...

Re: Ok, my turn to ask for OC roll help

If you're feeling resistance to rolling the hull with your thighs & knees, you might want to check your outfitting and add some foam wedges on the sidewall or adjust your straps - if your kness are slopping around at all, you'll ...

... outfitted like that, or even getting enough water in it to make it sluggish. I'm not saying you shouldn't have flotation - I just have a funny feeling that at some point the bags, foam bulkheads, foamed out sides, etc. make it less of an open boat than an electric pump does. At what point does ...

Re: Ocoee vs Viper 11

... I experienced the usual learning curve of tripping over rocks with the chines that many go through with such a boat. This might have influenced my feeling that the Viper 12 felt "edgier" to me than the Ocoee. A friend who paddles a Viper 12 recently paddled my Ocoee and felt the Ocoee felt like ...
