Re: C-Boaters with nose plugs?
I wear them when playing or when the water is really cold. Or sometimes on bigger/scarier rapids.... They do have a certain calming property, maybe like putting a burlap sack over the head of a crocodile to chill it out??

Re: Do you roll with your eyes open or closed?
I always roll with em closed. Learned that way and now it is all just muscle memory.
I have, however, opened my eyes while being recirculated in a hole to try to figure out which way was up. That works ok, as long as you aren't too deep.

Re: SUP! (Stand Up Paddleboarding)
SBroam is right: Get a SUP paddle or a long regular one and use it in your traditional canoe. Once you get the hang of it, it's possible to tackle easier whitewater this way, with much better view, longer reach and more fun. For sport paddlers it's yet another way to run a rapid you have grown out ...

I could see not being at all connected to the board as a bit of a hinderance to any sort of slalom boat-like performance.

Re: SUP! (Stand Up Paddleboarding)
I'll be the first to say I despise SUP and don't see why it has taken off. (Except the whole chicks in bikinis thing, I guess that is a little bit of a draw.) I tried it out on a lake a few years ago a trade show and found it to be basically what I expected; slow, unstable, and clumsy. Why anyone wo...

Re: c1 release buckles
I think for a kid I'd go with a very minimal bulkhead. No need for it to come way up their legs, just enough to hold the knees down and out to the sides. Takes a step out of swimming, too.

Re: Advice on whitewater canoe
I agree with what Creeker said about going with plastic if possible, especially for those shallow and rocky southern creeks. However, I think for someone looking to just break into the sport (addiction, lifestyle?) any whitewater specific solo boat will be better than none. Pick up whatever you can ...

+1 to that. The Outrage is a fun boat and not overly heavy. If you want a little more edge, try a Viper 11 or 12.yarnellboat wrote:Outrage might be more forgiving at 210+ lbs.

Chapelle is my inspiration to stick with C1.... Maybe someday I wont suck.
That creek they were on with the open boat was STEEP.

Looks good! My only advice is to use the sharpest bread knife you can find to cut foam instead of the hacksaw blade. Trust me, it will make your life much easier.

Re: Any tips for lightening an Option?
personally I love people making mods to canoes but I'm not a fan of knocking off the whole deckplate and gunnel system molded into the option. Its a very durable design even floating along by itself after a swim. I thinks its way more likely to get bow damage/cracks for 5 lbs saved. Yeeeaaaah.... I...
