Alden, Back in the early '80s there weren't many plastic boats, and if you wanted a high-performance boat, fiberglass was your only choice. The plastic boats didn't offer much length advantage anyway - they were 12"+ at the time. Consequently, people who raced, paddled their race boats all the time....

Years ago I remember Gary Grosclaude to a dynamic entry into the Bottom Moose - a couple of people threw him and his slalom boat off the bridge.
