Raven as instructors boat: The secondary is rock solid, you can exaggerate leans for demonstration purposes. The secondary is rock solid, if newbies start crashing into you (and pushing you into interesting spots), you'll still stay upright. The secondary is rock solid, if you have to rescue the new...

Raven and Nitro have different feels. Raven - very stable and dry, not the fastest to turn Nitro - less stable than Raven, about as dry, better for big guys, turns faster If you're an instructor or want a very forgiving boat, the Raven is great. If you want to play, then either the Nitro (big guy) o...

Did you buy it that way or cut a one-peice and add the ferrule? I have a one-peice AB Edge I'd like to convert, but I've not done that before The paddle was built as a two piece by AB. Instead of bonding the blade to the shaft, they installed a push pin on the blade. It's a very snug fit without th...

I have a 58" Aquabound Carbon Edge 2 piece that fits in my Taureau. I took the footpedals out, and just slide it behind the saddle. If you use the footpedals you could fit the blade up in front of your knees. Price is $120 give or take and it's a paddle I wouldn't mind using if I had to. Solid shaft...

COcanoe, where ya at? Looking at a boat in person is a heck of a lot better than trying to get info from glossy photos. I've got just shy of 30 solo whitewater canoes (not everything is on the site), odds are one will work for you.

Cut the grip off at the base. You're going to play hades trying to pull it off. Then drill it out using larger and larger bits. Stop when you have a hole large enough to plug your dowel grip into. If some plastic remains stuck to the shaft, bond dowel grip in with methyl methacrylate (plexus, devcon...

Current generation of NRS bags is good. Older bags were so-so as others have mentioned. The urethane bags without purge valve hold up well but are a PITA to drain, newer coated nylon with purge seem good but I don't have much time with them. Switched to Gaia Everlast bags last year, slightly heavier...

Been running LiION batteries in pumps for 3 years. So far so good. If your battery is too small for the pump, it's going to trip the fuse. That's why you choose your pump first, then get the correct sized battery to go with it. If your pump draws 5 amps on startup, get a battery that can handle 7 am...

No real plans needed, it's a very simple wiring job. Start with the pump, then find a battery that will power it, followed by a waterproof case to hold the battery (lead acid can get wet, the others need to stay dry). Decide on how you want to mount the battery/ pump/ switch. On the most recent boat...

I haven't used powertool batteries, but I do use LiION batteries in my pumps. LiION has a serious quirk to keep in mind when using with a pump system. The batteries will have a built in fuse/ limiter that shuts them off when the drain is too fast. Mine turn off at 7amps, smaller batteries shut off a...

Go to your local fiberglass shop and pick up some S-glass for the skidplates. It will be cheaper than Kevlar felts, it will wear better, and you can make it somewhat smooth so that you don't grab when going over rocks. Kevlar felt is easy but isn't the best choice for skidplates. G-flex also wouldn'...

Cheap shipping stops at the border. Most freight companies don't want to deal with customs, so they charge an extra arm or leg to do it. Contact the seller and see if they know anyone going up to Banff/ Jasper for vacation, and offer to pay their gas (couple hundred $$). You'll save money and get th...

The manufacturers own the molds. They pay the designer royalties for each boat produced. The designer owns the rights to their design. If you want to make plastic Ocoees, find out who owns the rights to the design. Odds are it's either Dagger or the estate of Frankie Hubbard. If the owner of the des...
