Re: Open boat for a bigger paddler

. . . Let him get some experience, build some skills and make his own choices if he wants to get more adventurous/wet later. . . I can't argue with the logic of the above posts. Good solid advice. But let me stir the pot a little by sharing a recent experience with a newbie I worked with. My long-s...

Re: New Freestyle OC1?

Thanks for the news, Gwyn! Congrats to Andy!

Pix of the new boat??

Is there demand for a new design? Hm-m. . . Does Andy provide instruction? If I could learn how to paddle one, I'd buy it!

Re: Thigh buckles

I've used stainless-steel aircraft buckles with good success. The quick-release system features a cord between the flaps on the buckles. One pull on the cord releases both buckles. In an OC-1, I put a piece of plastic tubing on the cord, so it's easier to see and grip. In a decked C-1, I fasten a st...

Re: Tandem boating, but drier. . .

. . . I have wanted to convert a Jackson Dynamic Duo and looked at it a few times. I think it would work just fine. . . Folks, I'd be grateful for an update on this thread. I'm beginning to see lotsa butt-boaters in Dynamic Duos on the river, and wondering if anyone's converted one to C-2 yet. . . ...

Frankie Hubbard: Missing Links

There's a good pic of Frankie Hubbard currently on the GDI's FaceBook page. THANKS to Mark Saxon for posting it. It's sad to see so little information about the man, his accomplishments, and his influence on our sport. Surely he deserves more. Where are the articles and photos? Where's the biography...

Interesting choice, Matt. Lots of positive comments about 'current' designs (Option, Fly) but not so much about older school hulls. Would love you to amplify your positive comments about the Quake.

Thanks in anticipation!

Re: Triple Saddle positioning woes

. . . Maybe I just split the seats up and set it up to paddle it tandem only? . . . I've never been a big fan of triple saddles. In my Caption, I've used NorthWater Loop Track Anchors, and two saddles only. You can adjust your tandem seat placement according the weights of the paddlers, and for sol...

Re: An Option for Prelude paddlers

. . . remember to support your local (and non-local) canoe companies!!!! . . . Its just a darn shame the L'Edge and Prelude are now MIA as well as the Probe, Viper . . . On those notes, it's worth reminding y'all that some of the tried and true hulls (Viper 11s & 12s. . .) are still available, in c...

Re: cascade

I have one f/s -- $100 for boat, skirt, and flotation. There is a crack beneath the cockpit rim, but the rest of the hull is solid.

Located in British Columbia -- where are you?

Cheers

Re: Yakima foot braces

FWIW, someone (I believe it's NorthWater) has put Yakima foot-pegs onto a glue-in anchor. (For those who can't attach the foot-pegs to the saddle, and an alternative to toe-cups.) Looks like it would work well on composite or Royalex, but doubt it would work on polyethylene.

Re: Source for skirts for Cascade

I don't know for sure, but SnapDragon prob'ly has the specs on file, and would likely build one as a special order.

I might mention that I have one for sale -- $100 OBO! Includes the Cascade (which sadly has some damage, which looks weldable).

Located in British Columbia.

Re: Paddling Gear and Rolling

Thanks for the positive suggestions, folks! Further to Ross' comments, I'm going to take along a variety of helmets and PFDs to the next practice session, and try them all in different combinations. I'm also going to look at revising the storage of pin-gear -- trim down the front profile of the PFD....

Paddling Gear and Rolling

I've been working on the rolls in the pool all winter, and if I concentrate, I'm usually successful rolling whatever OC-1 I'm in. When rolling, I usually wear an old retired PFD in the pool. (Oh, and shorts of course.) Observers usually confirm I have an effective hip flick, head is last out of the ...

Re: Dagger Caption Outfitting Questions

Suggest you use NorthWater anchor tracks, and put in two fully-adjustable saddles -- one of which can be moved close enough to center to be used as a solo saddle.

Message me, and I'll send you pix.

Re: Dry land rolling practice

I'd like to know more about Pauls, "step and flipper".-M- Me too, MM! Paul -- please! . . . Einar's point about learning first in the pool, with a smaller hull, makes sense. I've had a hand in teaching new C-boaters basic rolling techniques, and I start them off in a C-1. I think they find it easie...
