Bold move. EJ has taken an interest in the C boating community. Let's try not to be overly critical. My hat is off to EJ! A guess: this outfitting might be better suited to the playboat where Jackson excels. P.S. I would bet that Larry Horne's saddle is far superior for river running (oops!) ...

We need LIGHTER boats. Plastic is tough but HEAVY. Some material engineer needs to come up with a super light, moldable, wear and impact resistant, relatively inexpensive fiber. Then the world will be a better place :D . Part of the problem is ... material development has slowed because energy is 'b...

A second generation Finkenmeister ...... 1) with a flatter front deck (this would make rolling easier and crossover strokes easier). The Fink is way too DEEP. 2) with conventional outfitting - thigh straps 3) with a 'somewhat' flatter bottom - this would yield better primary stability and would allo...

Rediscovering The Finkenmeister

I've been paddling a converted Pyranha H3 255 for several years and definitely like the boat. Recently I had the H3 on the Farad section of the Truckee River - a class 3+ run with one 4 at the level we ran it (2000 cfs). This section of the Truckee also has two fun but bumpy 15 ft dams to run which ...

The last two posts demonstrate one of the reasons why we won't see any new C1 designs in plastic. We are not very supportive of the few 'brave' designers who take a big chance with the C1 market. The C1 community seems to be its own worst enemy :x . We eat our young. It is an amazing phenomenon to w...

Why not take that plug and wrap a composite layup around it? It would be a trip (back into the past) to actually paddle a LIGHT boat in whitewater, instead of heavy plastic. Of course, I would have to be alot more careful..... :o

It would still be worth doing :D .

Hello Larry, That's a 3 holer C2. I've got one. The center hole can be used for paddling solo (which I've done) or for easy gear access when paddled as a C2. The center hole can affect the rigidity of the boat, but all-in-all the boat should be fun to paddle as a C2 (not so much fun as a C1 :-? ). S...

Hello Pat, People don't paddle C1's because they are easy. C1's are paddled, at least in part, because some boaters like a serious technical challenge. Continue to challenge yourself occasionally in the C1 (you might not want to abandon your other boats right away to keep the frustration level down)...

The bulkhead was tried in my Robson Finkenmeister for 2 years. I gave it a long stubborn shot :-? . I eventually put thigh straps in the boat and my control improved significantly.

The Pyranha H3 255 makes a very good conversion. I got mine from Larry Horne and it replaced my Finkenmeister.

Why Such a Large Volume Boat?

Hello Larry,

What was your rationale for going with such a large volume boat :o ? This would be my inclination also but I want to see if we share the same reasons.

P.S. The outfitting is very clean and professional looking.

I'm for keeping the discourse ON topic - that is, providing useful information about Cboating. I am not interested in reading clever insults thrown around by boaters that can't control their egos. It seems that kind of dialogue turns more people away from the site than it entertains.

Thanks,

Bruce

I live in Reno, Nevada. Contrary to popular opinion, it is not all desert and casinos here in Reno. The Truckee River runs out of Lake Tahoe, goes right through Reno and terminates at Pyramid Lake out in the Great Basin. Soooo....we have an exceptional whitewater park in downtown Reno that is availa...

Larry,

Solid thinking 8) . You have a mountain of common sense.

P.S. I just picked up a Dagger Saddle about 6 months ago. Otherwise I'd likely be in.
