I'm trying to figure it out, man. I have a rookie I'm leading down the Lower Yough which was supposed to be Sunday. Monday I definitely want to get on the UY. My family is coming up with me and, for that reason, I'm not coming up until Saturday evening. So I have to trade in either a Savage run or a...

Chester the Brace Monkey here. I haven't really been in an open boat since ALF and even down there I did most of my boating in a C1....so I can't say if I'm a better open boater because of it. I'm definitely a better boater than I was just a few short months ago and feel totally at home on class IV ...

just great....
Just great, Paul! He'll have this printed, enlarged and plastered on his wall next week...or, shamelessly smeared all over the web.
Nicely done!

There's going to be a good selection of stuff to paddle. I'm sure that an LBS run will take place if it's running. I, too, would like to get on the Upper Yough, but I suspect it will be too high. I'm not against a Top Yough run either and I think that the other C-boaters I'll be with are looking for...

Worst case scenario
You could always pack up the car, grab a few buddy's and head out for an awesome road/paddling trip over the course of a long weekend. Bring some gear, boats and gas money...I mean friends....and make retrieving the boat an adventure.
Of course, that's the worst case scenario....or is it?

Anthony...stylin' the falls!!!! How tall is that big one? It looks 20 + in the picture. Oh...and those kayakers were like, "man...I wish I had enough brass in my pocket to run this with a single blade in an open boat" (Looks into 'pocket' and sighs deeply)...."oh well, I guess I'll have to stick to ...

Passed on from the Canoe Falls Master
Dooley gave me some solid advice and laid out his game plan for falls. He plugs anything over 30. Try's to land on a 45 anything 20-30. Boofs anything 20 and under. Of course, variables are factors. Shallow landing, aerated water...etc. Advice from Dooley that was advice to him....if all else fails ...

you know it
Oh yeah 8) . So who wants to car-pool and split the cost of gas $? I'm out of Lebanon....near Hershey. 15 minutes from the turnpike...and about 25 minutes from 81. I can drive or ride....doesn't much matter to me but gas is almost 4 bucks a gallon so I'm really motivated to share wheels with someone...

I'm in the same boat! PUN INTENDED! I took my 'new' C1 down a flood stage local run yesterday and pretty much favored my on-side. In three laps I probably had 4-5 braces that put me from my side to upright....but I can't help but think I could have avoided falling over into the brace if I was more c...

Contact Gumpy
Contact Gumpy (Joe.) He's been killing it on the creeks in the Poconos with it. One thing I can tell for sure from the Facebook photos is that it boofs well, but he's in a better position to give you more feedback.

I'm curious about using the slicey stern to change direction. I'll look this up. That is exactly the type of information I was looking at getting. I had suspected the stern squirt hole-escape thing. I paddled with Tommy two weeks ago and he described his new move for getting out of holes...by gettin...

Spin-off topic of hull speed -pros and cons of slicey ends
Recently started paddling a Wavesport Z C1 following about two months of using a Pyranha Everest C1. The Z is much more narrow and has ends that are pointed and flat as a pancake compared to a lot of modern boats. Here is what I've noticed: Pros: Fast downriver and crossing currents on ferry’s. Very...

Art of self recue
The art of self rescue has been coming up pretty frequently. Fortunately, we get some practice when we start whitewater canoeing and each time we move up to more difficult runs. Some key things I've learned from others. Smerda had a nice post about flipping your boat over so it's right side up. It's...
