Novacraft Ocoee
Has anyone out there actually tried the Novacraft Ocoee made of the new material "Tuff Stuff?" How was it?

Re: Dry land rolling practice
In case anyone was concerned that this thread would somehow die, take comfort. Slight change of topic. When practicing rolling on a lake I have often thought how nice it would be if I could hold my breath for three minutes so that I could make several attempts to roll without having to get out of th...

I can promise you that in the Spring the White Mountains in New Hampshire will be glorious. Hop on over.

Re: Dry land rolling practice
Wow. Great stuff. Thank you. I'll get to work on it. It was, in fact, Andrew who taught me to roll, but, as I said, I learn such things slowly and with great difficulty. (It might be easier to find something I'm actually good at, but I love OC-1 whitewater, so I persevere). If I could get to water I...

Re: Dry land rolling practice
I went to the gym today and lay on the mat trying to replicate the position I would be in for rolling. The closest I could get was this: 1. Lay flat on your back. 2. Let both of your knees fall in the direction that would be the bow of the canoe (that is to say, the knee that is touching the mat is ...

Re: Dry land rolling practice
I am afraid I am among the less gifted in this endeavor (that's putting it mildly), and having it broken down into small elements is good for me. I did not know a lot of the terminology in Jakke's post, but, hey, it's the Internet, and I found all the definitions on line. I will reread this thread m...

Re: Dry land rolling practice
Clearly I am talking to people who live in a world that is not the same of those of us whose upper and lower bodies are (as so clearly stated earlier in this thread) "insanely disconnected." People like me who have trouble with it often experience the following: you've set up just right, your body i...

Re: Dry land rolling practice
Well, not much lately. Six feet of snow on the ground and it hits single digits (F) just about every night. Even if I could find some open water the ice cream headache would be pretty fierce. Can't pool roll. I seem to be allergic to the chlorine or something. But when the weather is good I'll be at...

Dry land rolling practice
Although I do occasionally roll successfully, I don't think I have ever felt that "hip snap" people talk about. I've watched dozens of videos and I can tell that in a good roll, the boater's head stays down at the water line, while at the same time his weight shifts from his on-side to his off-side ...

What about Toaster Mitts? I've used them and they are warmer than any gloves I've had. They haven't bothered me as far as paddle control is concerned.

Re: Royalex Replacement?
Visually very impressive, but I rarely drop my boat off a building (cars are a different matter). The next video should show the boat broached in big current, preferably with one missing air bag, which we do see in real life from time to time, and not bending. That would really impress me. If it doe...

Re: Anchor points, suppliers and bonding.
Thank you. I missed ALF this year, but hopefully next year I'll be there and I'd love to try out the Bulldog.

Re: Anchor points, suppliers and bonding.
I have no other suggestions for outfitting, but I am very curious about your boat. I'd never heard of the Bulldog. I looked at some videos of it and it looks interesting. What is it like to paddle? Also, given that it is a composite, can you glue anchor points to it using contact cement (which in my...

Re: Air bag repair
Or better yet, coat the entire bag with bacon grease and have your dog lick it off. But first train the animal to bark when it feels a leak. The six pounds of cooked bacon can be frozen to eat later. The dog may not get off all the grease. Accordingly, this method is not recommended if the bags will...
