March 9 before official ALF

Hi All I'll be arriving in Lenoir City in time to boat on Saturday March 9. I'd like to run a class 3 warm up that day, so if you'll be around please get in touch. Also, last year I was able to catch the Tohicken on my way home the following weekend. Can anyone tell me whether there is going to be a...

Take a look at the Millbrook Boats web site. His boats are light and some are fairly narrow. And they are great boats, too.

Re: ALF/Pre-ALF Workshops

This appears to be yet another instance in which commentary on the Internet is creating a false impression of the real thing. Last year was my first ALF and I am really looking forward to going back. Whatever may have appeared on FB or elsewhere I can personally testify that the people were very nic...

List of Paddle Makers

Here are the single blade whitewater paddle makers I know about, in no particular order:

Werner

Mitchell

Aquabound

Echo

Core

Galasport

Jim Snyder

Sawyer

Zavarel

Norse

Can anyone add to this list?

Dryway Dragon's Tooth

Not pretty, but at least I made it. I should have been paddling harder over to the right starting fairly high in the rapid.

Ain't Redneck Fest

I saw any number of people with helmet cams. Where are the videos?

Re: ARF - Northeast Canoe Gathering (3 day event)

The comment about the police in the area is right on. They love giving tickets and tend to hang out on the road to the river, so beware.

I'll be there Friday morning at about ten with either yellow Ocoee or a green Paradigm (haven't decided yet).

Re: ARF - Northeast Canoe Gathering (3 day event)

Here's a heads-up for those of you who haven't been on the Dryway before. The water is colder than you might expect for this time of year (there is a reason for this, but I can't remember what it is, something to do with how it is stored above the Monroe Bridge Dam, I think). It's not freezing, and ...

Re: New Boston

The Farmington at New Boston rarely runs during the summer, although I have been lucky enough to catch it in July. Spring and Fall rains will cause it to rise rapidly, and fall off almost as quickly. I'd guess it runs maybe 20 days a year. In October, the dam feeding Fall Creek (a tributary of the F...

Re: Can someone school me on WW canoes please

Once when I was at MKC I saw these kid-sized OC-1 boats. But I can't remember what they were called. Splash, maybe?

Re: Cutting a Paddle Down

I've cut down three or four, having finally accepted that all my paddles were too long (I am 70 in., and now use either a 54 or a 56 depending on the boat I'm in). Heating always got the grip off. Jim Michaud advised me to put the grip end in a plastic bag and put the bag in boiling water for a few ...

Re: class 2+-3+ boater

I'm also at Day's Inn and will be ready to start boating Saturday morning. I hope to move up to class 4 during the week, but for the first few days, Class 3 or 3+ sounds great. I've not been to ALF before, so I need to meet and more-or-less tag along with folks who know where they are going and what...

ALF Question

I'm thinking about going to ALF, but I want to fly in, which means I need to rent an open boat (I usually paddle an Option or an Ocoee, but I know I can't be choosy) locally for the week. Does anyone in the neighborhood rent boats (and hopefully paddles, PFD and helmet)?

Thanks for any info.
