Re: Light L'edge v/s L'edge (responsiveness)

Einar, and everybody else.. to the extend of my knowledge, the L'ight is actually more capable of handling heavy hits than the L'heavy. Testament to this are the L'ights out there in the hand of some pretty brutal abusers (namely shawn malone, eli, and some others paddling the gnar on a regular basi...

Re: Canoe instruction... why do so few of us pay for it?

Nothing pushed my paddling forward as fast as paid instruction so far. The right approach to it is vital - i.e. for me, an understanding of the underlying physics and physical aspects - others may thrive on different approaches. So far I can say, I have found the right coach(es). My current state of...

Re: Ok, my turn to ask for OC roll help

ian, while rolling isn't technically complicated, most of what people pointed out here is still valid and important. Some boats also take it better than others, but if you're in a complicated place for a roll, all components better line up! my rolled boats so far - in order: "simple to roll" first -...

Re: Ok, my turn to ask for OC roll help

One other thing - some people find returning to some practice tools helpful, even when they can already roll well, and regularly do it. In your case, it might help you to grab a piece of foam - I'm talking the hard insulating foam for houses or something like that (styrofoam is usually a little too ...

Re: Boat recommendations

Re: Saddle height Let's not forget that saddle height is important for a lot of other things, not just center of gravity and the perceived "tippyness" that may or may not come with a higher one. While it obviously is true for some boats, that they will feel more stable with a lower saddle, a higher ...

Re: Royalex is dead?

Thin skin of something sounds great, but IMHO abrasion is not really the worst problem laminates have that's why I never really thought much about it. OK of course impact aside, then that's the next thing you gotta worry about, so it's definitely an issue that has to be accounted for. There are abra...

Re: Royalex is dead?

- Laminates still have potential, the Clipper vipers have proven that, although I won't bet on them hitting a sharp rock sideways full of water (or rotating on one, which nearly penetrates my R84 spark, but just leaves a deep pointy dent..). - as to my knowledge, no single canoe has ever been built ...

Re: Ok, my turn to ask for OC roll help

Looking at your video again, I see another thing that does apparently prevent your roll here. You start the swinging motion too soon! - Folding "down" with your upper body and swinging your head over the boat are more like two sequenced, seperate motions. - Timing is crucial here, if you swing too e...

Re: Ok, my turn to ask for OC roll help

- One thing that I immediately saw here.. your upper/handle arm hangs up inside the boat, but you want your elbow to swing over the upper gunwale. Think about wiping your nose on low gunwale, airbag, high gunnel until the boat comes up, while the paddle handle precedes that sequence. - If you have p...

Excellent. Double fun when you get a chuckle out of living in one of those countries where actual cheques are a thing of a distant past.. ;D

OK. Gotta go back to work now. ;(

Ha, true dat.. there definitely are people who don't like it. But as I said.. the ones (I know) who have one do love it and even they are paddling other boats, heck I am! Frankie just made it into my growing quiver via a Mobile Adventures SFly...

Re: Question of Length

The only short boat that doesn't fit the Category you're looking into regarding Speed would be the ION, although you'd still fit into it lenght- and weight-wise. I (at 185 LBs and 1,90m) love my Spark ("too heavy for the boat", I am, lots of people said.. not the effin case if I have fun paddling it...

VERY good! I think this can actually be useful for other instructors, in addition to providing funny insights into what sometimes used to be a challenge (more or less so, but hey.. have you forgotten) to each and every one of us here.. which is always good to remind yourself of, because it can be ha...

Re: Buying a used Spark--issues?

Esquif should be able to install a bulkhead for you, the Europe importer definitely is. Although installing the complete setup yourself makes for trim7error correction. So that whatever happened with the "holds a line VERY well" thing stated above, doesn't happen to you.. it sounds very much like wr...
