Re: Favourite creeking paddle?

Mitchell Premier: great for slalom, great for creeking, great for getting comatose raft-guides off your couch; and tough to boot! What's not to like? The Werner Bandit is the archetypal creeking paddle for me, not the best feel in the water, not the toughest, but possibly the best balance of paddlin...

Re: Officially converting to C-1

I will second the Mystic as a creeker. Big, stable, comfortable, rolls easy. Has some edge, but at the same time is stupidly forgiving. I do have some issues holding a line in big, pushy water. That could, of course, be my utter lack of technique though. I'd be curious to try a Tuna Some boats that...

Re: Officially converting to C-1

Sure, having a collection of retro c1s is cool, but if you just want a boat that works..... Convert. There is no shame. You'll be able to choose from a slew of modern, plastic boats that work really well. Don't forget how cheap it is compared to a composite boat (maybe not if you're buying a brand ...

Re: Officially converting to C-1

Convert a kayak, Ideally a wide one (i use 27" or more as a guideline) it's cheap, they're plentiful, and you'll learn how to bodge outfitting like never before. That said... It may well be harder than paddling an OC at first... even purpose built c1's are different to opens when it comes to paddlin...

Re: River Elf Storm Chaser C-1

This looks like a serious leap forwards in the design of purpose built C1's... I'm not convinced that the Composite layup can ever really be as good as PE at taking nasty hits though, which I personally see as limiting it's appeal.

Re: Boat of the Week - Robson Finkenmeister

I've looked at getting a Finkenmeister a couple of times and always ended up scratching my head, I like the idea but I'm put off by the very low volume stern, it looks like it could give a heavier paddler the option of treating it a bit more like a slalom boat (by far the funnest way to get around)....

Re: Which drysuit?

if it's a long term investment, get a goretex suit. The other fabrics don't (to my knowledge) have the same kick butt warranty as Gore. Yeah, Kokatat have finally got a sensible distributor in the UK, and the first thing we've been learning about them is that Tropos is much more fragile than the go...

Re: Lenfun Gear

You get what you pay for in a very literal sense, most paddling gear is made by one or two large factories in china; word is that the lower the unit price you pay, the less consistent the gear is (they let iffy gear through with the stuff that's actually to specification)... I was also recently made...

Re: The Drysuit Evolved - SwimLeft

Looks good, I've talked about that idea numerous times over the years, but never really figured anyone would take the idea and run with it. My major query is: how hard/stiff is the seal at the waist? and How likely is it to open unintentionally when the two parts of the suit are pulled apart? I do l...

Interesting stuff... I weigh 210lbs so that may actually put the Large Jed out of the running, if people at 175lbs think it's the right boat for them...

Big, Modern Playboats?

So the workload from my course has finally dropped off toward the end, the sun has come out and the orbiting bodies are all aligned*; So I've been paddling more times in the last 7 days than I did in the previous 6 months... I've concluded several things one is that I was clearly very down about my ...

http://www.whitewater-safety.com/our-products/full-on-vest/ Hydroscapes makes an awesome pfd however they are crazy pricey. They have a unique system that tightens your waist belt as you pull on the shoulder straps. I have one of their early models and very much like it. I need to fix the pocket zi...

You're UK based right? If you're paddling in N. Wales give me a bell... I can definately let you try some paddles and am always keen to paddle with another canoeist, I've got a Full-Carbon DD Turbine, Wooden Mitchell premier and could probably borrow one of the top of the line Robson quantum's too w...
