Re: loose C1 straps

Oh yeah. I actually did buy one set with the belts and used them for a while. If i recall, they worked fine, but i thought it was too thin. i already had some polypro (thicker, non absorbent) webbing so I swapped it...i'm just weird and picky.

Re: loose C1 straps

Those are really.. inexpensive! Beware though, someone on here had trouble with cheap buckles corroding and not working... something to think about. I use these http://www.skybelts.com/Our-Story_ep_7.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; They are a bit more expensive than the ones you ...

Re: ... 'cause it's all about the water.

Hey Rob, where is the Upper Eel you speak of? The only Upper Eel I know is class five and it's in Mendocino county above Lake Pillsbury. Maybe you mean South Fork Eel below Legget? Johnd- true we could use some more good III runs in the sac area. but not at the expense of the IV-V  If you're w...

Re: C1 for those who need a tall saddle?

If you paddle oc pushing on footpegs, I bet you"ll find you can get lower in a c1. Mostly because in a c1 your feet and lower leg will be down almost flat and also because, if you really want to paddle a c1, you will need to...

I can't imagine paddling a c1 with even an 8" saddle

Re: Other wood species for gunwales

Genuine Mahogany is commonly used in boat building. It's wonderful to work with and very pretty.
Not too soft, not too hard , not too heavy, and (last time I bought it) not too expensive. It's juusst right. Don't know about your location, but it's easy to get around here.

Re: Other wood species for gunwales

Ipe, AKA Iron Wood, is VERY tough and nasty to work with. Wear a full hazmat suit because it's FULL of toxic resins and the dust makes your skin red and itchy and makes your eyes burn for days..
That makes it good for decking, but it sure does not behave well, glue well or hold finishes at all.

Re: loose C1 straps

I've had good luck with 2" poly propylene webbing. It has a rough texture.
now I see there is a non slip version that looks interesting.

I'm one of those who doesn't think that rolling OC-1s is a good investment. I've been paddling OC-1 almost exclusively since 2000, and there has been no occasion when rolling was the best option. I'm with Louie. Get it to the bank and dump it out.

could be one of many things.
shoes can make or break you
same goes for ankle blocks.
just have to experiment
time in the boat (conditioning) helps a LOT

Re: An Honest Salesman

..really important always. I don't think a wobbly boat is high performance. I think a high performance canoe for whitewater must have a good degree of initial stability, and any canoe that has poor initial stability is going to hold most paddlers back. No matter how experienced they are. Initial sta...

Might as well start out with a wet suit.
That way you will really appreciate the comfort of the drysuit when you get one.

Re: Thigh strap/hip pad locations

what cheajack said, that's the cool guy way. There has been overlap in every c1 I've set up. It's no biggy. If the hip pad fits the rim good, the strap putting pressure on it is not an issue. But some rims are a funky shape and the plastic hip pad doesn't fit very well, so just modify the hip pad if...

Thanks OC. A few cboaters do appreciate the value of functional art  There are only 11 of those saddles out there. 9 guys jumped on the first and only run offer. I decided while building that batch that I would do no more. While I really enjoyed the process of design & creation and loved learn...

Re: C1 knee strap placement

Agree with gonzo that the ratchets are terrible realease mechanisms. I don't like them for thigh straps for that reason. I hear there are some that work good but I haven't seen them. I can't imagine getting in trouble when the strap is way down at the knee though. If the straps are low they will be ...
