Great C-1Ws
It is rather odd that nobody has mentioned Bunny Johns and Carrie Ashton among the truly all-time greats. Bunny has made a lifetime of contributions to the sport in ways to numerous to mention. (Ironically, when she and Mike made the US team, (winning the team trials over all the mens' C-2s. BTW), a...

Delmarpa boating
Lots of serious action on the Susquehanna around Conowingo when levels are right -- best to check with the locals. Several smaller fall-line streams in the general area for class 2+ runs. Further west the Conewago Canoe Club has some active paddlers.

Old school vids
Is there a way to see these videos? The still shots look tantalizing. Who is the C-1 in the GC shot? Looks like he is paddling an early 80's slalom boat, but maybe part of it is under water.

RE: Grumman advt
Interesting point. I'm not sure at what point Grumman picked up on the whitewater thing. The fin keel was really bad in whitewater, and I recall someone who tried to "shave" one down & it turned into a disaster. So at some point Grumman must have realized the potential & come up with the shoe-keel. ...

Grumman canoes
Did you guys look past the article and see the one about the new idea for thigh straps in a canoe and the ad that calls the aluminum grumman a whitewater boat?
So why was it "not" a ww boat???? Grummans came in 2 varieties: fin keel & shoe keel. The shoe keel was the whitewat...
Ender
Nice job -- reminds me of good old times!! Of course, being in the bow, I could never tell how well we got the full vertical 180, so the minute we rolled up my first words would be "Did we get it --did we get it?"
No video back then, the only pix I have are a few snaps and I'm always underwater.

Have you tried posting on the USA Wildwater site? There is an equpiment listing page, and I'd also suggest asking for advice directly from one of the "mentors" who paddles C-1 -- ie Pinyerd or Weir.

back ferry
Back ferry is just one application of a paddle skill everyone should have but few want to practice: paddling in reverse. Back ferries, eddy turns & peel-outs in reverse, anything you can think of in reverse: you aren't an expert until you can do them all comfortably. Boat length -- sure, it's more c...

ferry or peelout??
Re:
"Was noticing the title change, and rereading the initial question... which caused me to wonder if there is confusion going on between doing a ferry and peeling out?"
Well..., actually there sometimes IS:

Offsides
This is a tad peripheral, but may suggest a useful practice exercise for some. The key is in the psychology and the focus. Years ago John Sweet used to suggest this exercise for beginning/intermediate rollers: Pick an eddy, preferably a large one, so you can start away from the eddy line. Point the ...

Although I thought we had pretty well finished this thread off, I would like to add this link. Scroll to the bottom for one of the all-time great C-2M teams in action -- dude in the bow ;-) They were an inspiration to me. http://chucklyda.com/Chuck-Lyda_Memorial-Album.htm (This was during the transi...

I think Gt Falls was done years ago in C-2 -- maybe Gemini. Can't recall who it was, one of the DC C-2 pairs -- maybe Flack & Gutschick??
My partner wanted to borrow a Hydra & run it, but we never got it together.
