Re: Designing my own boat, help please!

I'll echo Adam's comments. I've used all three of the methods he describes, and for starting from scratch, I think strip built is the way too go. The Blackfly and Ion were made from cutting up and rearranging other parts of other boats with liberal additions of foam, wood, cardboard, etc, and its ve...

Re: Boat demos in the SE

I'm guessing the thickness will end up being pretty similar to the Ion. It'll just be thinner than the Option, which is pretty overbuilt.

Re: Boat demos in the SE

The goal for the Octane 85 is to make a boat that will work well for the smaller, lighter people who want a river running boating. Basically, the people who like the Ion, but want a bit more speed. The Option is more optimized for creeking for medium-large paddlers To hit the main differences: Weigh...

Re: Gaia Everlast

My understanding is that the pyranha bags had crewsaver valves, but where made by a different company, so they're not the same as the ones crewsaver is making now. As far as the Gaia bags go, my understanding is that the parent company has discontinued the entire Gaia line, so I'm not sure I'd put C...

Re: Winter in the Grand Canyon

We did 14 days with one layover. For about the first half of the trip we had brutally cold weather (record lows). We put in some big days on the water during that time, figuring paddling was the warmest thing we could do. I think our longest day was 29 miles. In a canoe, I probably wouldn't want to ...

Re: GoPro

I almost always shoot in 60p. I'll cut head and boat mounted shots down to about 75%-80% normal speed- it doesn't necessarily look "slow motion" but I find it smooths out some of the bumps.

Re: Drysuit Question

Two methods I've used:

1) wear multiple layers. If the inner layer is wetter, it's probably sweat. If the outer layer is wetter, it's probably a leak.

2) put a light layer and your drysuit and jump in a cold shower (cold so you don't sweat). if you get wet, you've got a leak.

You're probably thinking of Luke Hopkins. Luke won k-1 freestyle team trials one year paddling 'x-1'. And also won the world championships in c-1.

Kiddie boats

Rather than continuing the thread-jack of the stink eye thread, I figured I'd start another one. Hypothetically speaking, what would be the magic numbers on a kiddie boat for weight and price? Obviously, lower is better for both, but I'm looking for practical values, rather than ideal numbers.

It seems to me given the interest in pumps lots of folks must "mess up" a lot
I have no idea what you're talking about.
