Re: loose C1 straps

Scuba buckles work best with scuba webbing. It has a highly textured weave, which allows the serrated teeth of the buckle to get a firm grip. Other types of webbing that have a slicker surface will not work as well. Stainless steel scuba buckles combined with scuba webbing has been solid and reliabl...

Re: resin for paddle tip

This worked for me: - soak Dynel cord with epoxy resin - use stretch wrap to hold it on the blade until it cures - grind/sand to the same thickness as the blade - reinforce the faces of the (wood) blade with cloth & resin, overlapping the Dynel - grind/sand, coat with spar varnish for UV protection ...

Re: Compare Millbrook Shacho and Esquif Zephyr

I've been wondering myself how those two boats compare, so I was glad to see the question asked, but hoped there would be more comments. Surely more people have an opinion...

Re: c-1 outfitting...

... buckle shifts slips and generally loosens often... That type of buckle works best with scuba webbing (name?) which has a heavily textured weave. It's hard to see in the photo exactly what type of webbing you have, but if it's the slick surface type it will slip easier through the buckle. If you...

Re: Royalex is dead?

I would think that waxing Twintex would be a sure way to guarantee that nothing ever stuck to it ever ever again. That's fine by me. I only waxed the outside of the hull, and I don't have any plans to stick anything there. If I ever felt the need to wax the inside I wouldn't hesitate to do it. Wax ...

Re: Royalex is dead?

I've taken my last twin tex wound. Every time I loaded the Zephyr I'd end up with twintex fibers in my forearms. I bought a used Zephyr that had the same problem. A coat of Johnson's wax made the problem go away. I don't know how long a coat will last, but I've got 6 months on my first coat and it'...

Re: Tandem River Trippers

Has anybody used a Mohawk XL 13 as a tandem? No, but I've done some short tandem tripping in my OT Cascade (14'6"). With two people (~360lb total) and gear (~50lb) the weight really starts to affect how the boat handles. It's fine for a night or two, but I would take a longer boat for longer tandem...

Re: T-grip Tenons

Thanks Mike.

To be honest I didn't expect that paddle to last (it's a souped up $25 Caviness Pro after all). I have abused it more than a few times, fully expecting it to break, but it just keeps on ticking.

Re: T-grip Tenons

I slotted the top of the shaft and glued/screwed in a block that I shaped to my hand. I've been real happy with it, it's way strong and it feels good.

Re: Pumps

...I do sympathize slightly with the objections that are based on aesthetics... Agreed. The objections based on pump users being "lazy" or "lame" are complete BS. Some quick 5th grade math will tell you that using a lightweight paddle eliminates more physical effort than a pump ever could, by a wid...

Re: Pumps

Nobody is scoring first descents because they use pumps. Those guys don't need pumps. Pumps are only useful for old men. Anyone else is just lazy. Learn to run clean lines. Learn to boof. Progress. The point of my analogy was that when climbers started using little mechanisms people cried foul, laz...

Re: Pumps

This reminds me of a similar thing that happened to rock climbing in the 70's. Free climbing was (is) defined as climbing a face from the bottom to the top, using only your hands and feet for progress. You trail a rope, and place temporary "protection" anchor points in the rock, clipping your rope t...

If you are interested in patenting the ideas, hopefully you have already made a patent application in at least one country. If not, your public disclosure may have limited your options.

Re: Who makes an adjustable height pedestal?

If you spring mount the seat, with a radio remote trigger, you could do this when people borrow your boat:
