Re: Creeking in an Ion (or anything small) vs. L'edge?
Sounds like I should try to demo both the Option and Ion. I really like having edges to make snappy eddy turns and ferries, but maybe for harder water I'll check out something less "twitchy". What do you mean that it has an inability to plug? Does it tend to flatten out even if you try to plug, or i...

Re: C-PFD?
My Kokatat Ronin Pro is nice once its on, but it can be really hard to zip up the front without loosening and re-tightening it each time you put it on. That also makes it seem like the front pocket/flap which looks superficial is actually taking all of the strain instead of the fastex buckles undern...

Re: Creeking in an Ion (or anything small) vs. L'edge?
Thanks for the input. I'm glad to hear that it's a solid creekboat... if it's good enough for creeking it looks like a ton of fun to paddle! I'd be interested to hear from more people in general, but especially about getting worked in holes. With the combination of a short boat and serious volume it...

Creeking in an Ion (or anything small) vs. L'edge?
I'm thinking about getting an open boat to step up to harder creeks, and I'm looking for something with serious edges (and preferably plastic). I've heard great things about the L'edge, but they're HEAVY. The Ion caught my attention because it's both 10 pounds lighter and looks like it's really fun ...

C-1ing a standup paddle board?
Anyone ever mounted a saddle/thigh straps on a standup paddle board? Depending on what model you use, they look like they could paddle a lot like a squirt or slalom boat, low volume and very flat/edgy... I've never paddled one though, would the design be that fitted to being paddled like a C-1? I ha...

I'd like a creekboat that paddles almost as aggressively as the Atom, but has some volume (especially in the front). Having sharp edges takes some getting used to but it's both a lot of fun and can be really helpful when you need them... problem is the Atom just submarines on steeper stuff and gets ...

I never use a power face out J-stroke in whitewater, only a stern pry in a longer boat. If I'm in a playboat I'll almost always use a combination of C-strokes and crossbows for cruising and try to only use the pry for sudden maneuvering, that way wastes a little less power in an already slow boat pl...

C-1 outfitting: sticking vinyl to plastic?
I'm planning a conversion of a new (to me) boat-- a Prijon Creeker (if anyone has commentary on how this would act as a C-1, I would appreciate it but as it's the only hull available to me I'll probably end up using it). I'd like to be able to stick an open-boat style vinyl anchor with a D-ring to t...

A saddle+thigh strap system can fit and work very well in a C1. I have a dagger Atom and while I replaced the thigh straps with ones split with fastex buckles (so they actually release) the outfitting works excellently for me, I have good hip control of the boat and never fall out while trying to ro...

I own a Ronin Pro but would suggest the Green Jacket from when I've borrowed and used them briefly. The gear (knife etc) clips on the front are more easily accessible, the back pockets for holding a tow harness are a really good idea, and at least one version had some nice lined hand warmer pockets ...

It's been said, but it really depends on the river. Normally I paddle an Atom which isn't a longboat , but it's decently fast and a little less maneuverable than many C1 conversions. I've been on class II/III rivers (bigger rivers, as opposed to creeks) in a playboat that were tough just because I d...

It's hard to describe but one thing I've used with some success is a pry with the paddle angled so the power face is facing a bit upwards... it's kind of like the opposite of a sculling brace. As you push away from the boat the paddle is forced underwater. It doesn't do much on its own but it will h...
