Re: An Honest Salesman

One advice, go find some coaching (by preference of a coach that paddles these short boats). The prelude is an amazing canoe, but has a really steep learning curve, especially if you haven't been too often in another whitewater canoe. With coaching you can prevent falling into bad habits, that work ...

space between foam and thwarts

Hi guys, A technical question for the outfitters amongst you. I'm putting a new bulkhead in my L'Edge. Now, when I'm placing back my thwarts, there is about 2 mm space between the thwart and the top of the saddle. Should I add a thin layer of foam (maybe neoprene?) to fill that space, or is a bit ok...

Re: Boofing: lean back, forward, or neutral after hip-thrust

Quite some time ago, I saw a series of 2 paddlers boofing next to each other on a small drop, Dooley was one of them. I think it was on FB. And you could clearly see a big difference in how the boat moved around. Dooleys boat was near horizontal and cleared the better part of the lip. The second pad...

They announced a new boat in 2014, so I suppose that'll be the Phiend.

Re: Whitewater Rating System - Is It OK As Is?

Additional point to ponder is that boating technology has evolved (Options, Ledges and Octanes) which helps in mastering particular runs more quickly. When you look at kayakers almost all are in high volume riverruns that reduce the impact of "operator error" as to reading the water and chosing a l...

Re: Whitewater Rating System - Is It OK As Is?

The hardest guiding I've ever done was on a continous grade II, with competent paddlers, and blind 90° corners every couple hundred meters... . Paddling continuous class III; III+ felt a lot more intensive and harder to me then a II/III river with a couple longer IV rapids but in a drop-and-pool cha...

Re: Canoe instruction... why do so few of us pay for it?

Waw, interesting thread! I only drop in now, because I was away coaching ;-). I guess I'm a bit of an exception here, I've come across 10 different coaching, and I regret none of them. It just becomes harder to find coaches who can step up your game, unless you're lucky to find the right coach at on...

Re: European Cboat Armada 2013, Berner Oberland, Switzerland

Very very late, and it's kind of a quick edit, but here is the video with the footage I gathered. There are a lot of brilliant stills available, but fixing all the video formats already consumed a lot more time then I wanted. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghsD944mA_Y&feature=share&list=UUz__fQ1MVyj...

Re: What happened to Mohawk Phiend?

Hi guys, we've moved on another 2 months now. Hope you didn't encounter too much trouble finishing the machine. But I'm afraid so, since it seems to be taking much longer than expected. Or you guys must be secretly testing the new boat ;-). Richard seems to be boating quite a bit recently :D :D . An...

Re: Help Choosing my First WW Solo Canoe

Try before you buy is an often given advice but useless for quite a few relative beginners, since they can't get an idea of a boats capacities in a a short run. Some real nice suggestions have been made (probably some others will pop up). But I'd say, try to find a good deal on a zoom, spark, zephir...

Re: Ocoee vs Viper 11

I've had both, a viper 11 and an ocoee (Bell though). A bit of context, I went from a Viper11 to a prelude to an Ocoee and added a L'Edge to it. Primary stability: the Ocoee feels to me in between the Vipe11 and the Prelude, so less then the Viper11, more then the prelude Secondary: very good for bo...

Re: The next generation....

great to see youngsters on the river! But shouldn't they be wearing pfd's and hlemets when messing around in rapids?

It's probably an inspiration for which boats to choose for their 10 year old paddlers.

Re: Hip pads...

I've added hip pads recently to my L'Edge, and I'm wondering why I've been paddling without for such a long time! I used to have hip pads in my prelude, but they weren't snug enough. Hip pads don't necessarily make rolling easier, but it sure improves your boat contact. I've solved the wet exit issu...

Re: Ocoee tripping?

The Ocoee is a brilliant boat. And you'll love getting back into it from time to time, coming from the Spanish Fly. Both are cool, and you'll appreciate the differences between both as well.

Just not the best tripping boat though, gt another one ;-).

I wish I had a reciprocating saw, the ones where the blade goes straight out of the motor housing.. they make smaller ones now, that you could actually use on a built-in saddle. I had a bad buy with a Black-and-Decker scorpion, it doesn't take regular reciprocating saw blades. I'm now looking into ...
