Re: Nice Bell Ocoee & A Few Canoe Paddles FS/FT

I've successfully shortened an AW edge similar to the one described. Heating up the shaft just below the grip followed by downward vertical force while the T-grip is held tight separated the grip from the shaft. A heat gun would probably work best, but I was actually able to make do with a hair drye...

Re: Breaking into Slalom Racing

Unfortunately, the Penn Cup series just ended for 2012 with the Bellefonte Slalom on Oct. 14. However, you should consider participating in this "beginner" slalom series in 2013. The Penn Cup is a series of predominantly Class I races for both open and decked boats held at different locations in Pen...

Re: Question for slalom racers or fans

Wendy and ezwater hit the nail on the head. "Up, up, up" began as the cry given to urge a paddler to quickly paddle up the eddy and out of an upstream gate. I only use it in that situation, but others, perhaps people who were unaware of its origin and purpose have transformed it into a general chant...

Re: Young Adam Clawson and others in '85 slalom Nationals.

Now there's a blast from the past! '85 was the last Nationals at which my wife and I competed in C-2M. Although we entered the race as the reigning National Champions, Dana Chladek teamed up with Dave Paton to push us to second in '85. I remember watching Adam in particular as he was a very young up...

Pat:

Nice pics, but your youtube video has been posted as "private," and can't be accessed by the general public (at least that's what is says when I use the link).

Re: 1st C1 Conversion ???s

I agree that a wide seat is much more comfortable, but you don't necessarily need that width to descend all the way down to the hull. As long as you've glued the foam together well, you should be able to undercut the seat somewhat on each side to give more room for your legs. That along with elimina...

Re: Water in werner bandit shaft

might not be the t-grip. last time i checked over a paddle with water in it, it was because the shaft was compromised. other times I found cracked blades. Check it over good. ..if water is in it, it'll also come out of the same spot. find the wet spot. I'll second what Larry said. I don't use a Wer...

Re: Blackfly Ion as first boat??

Your biggest challenges in the very short Ion will not be stability but ferrying (especially off side) and breaking out of eddies (again, especially off side). Some on this board might think that the following advice is heretical, but as you are a kayaker switching into OC-1 and probably have not d...

Re: Olympics.....Dude.

Despite what Jim and I said above about cross-draws rarely being using in C-2 slalom competition in recent years, I did notice that the frequency of C-2 cross draws did increase slightly in the semi-final and final runs compared to the qualifiers. It was still only 2-4 boats, but out of a much small...

Re: vintage slalom videos?

You might want to obtain a copy of the classic slalom video Fast and Clean , which follows various slalom racers trying to make the US team in 1979 and then features their historic performance at the World Championships in Jonquiere, Quebec (the first time the Worlds were held in North America). Thi...

Re: Perception Gyra Max

Has anybody ever tried to alter the form of the GyraMax? I could imagine that an extrastrip of foam under the foamwedges would give the boat a little more rocker, thus making it more maneuverable. Axel Extra foam under the pillars won't alter the rocker much; it is more likely to just increase the ...

Re: New C1 to me

I would tend to use the past tense when referring to any Atlantis being a slalom boat...as in "it was a slalom boat," perhaps 30 or more years ago.
