I'm 6' 5", and very long in the torso even for my height. I use a 61.5" slalom paddle for my decked c-1s, and a 62" slalom paddle for my open boat.

At 5' 10", you might start with a 58" paddle. Don't start too short. It is harder to lengthen a paddle than it is to shorten it.

Bearboater is right. Get the power on at the catch, shorten your stroke, and the paddle won't have time to flutter.

C1 paddle size

Hi There,
I was wondering if there is a rule of thumb when choosing a paddle size for a C1. I am currently paddling a Esquif Detonator and using a Werner Bandit size 58". I am 6'1" and I was wondering if I need to shorten my paddle if/when I move into a C1.
Thanx

Werner Bandit modification

I have two glass Bandits. One is 58" and one is 60". I would like to shorten the 60 to 57 or 56. Anybody ever done this? I am going to contact ... but I'm sure they want more than I am willing to pay. As it is now the paddle is useless to me so if it can't be shortened, I would love to trade ...

the werner bandit is a good paddle, probably the best value out there.
is he paddling an open canoe? does he have a current paddle that he thinks is too short or too long?
he's a big boy.. i would get him a 60" and if it's too long he can shorten it.

Well, I suppose you could always resort to cutting the t-grip off, letting the shaft dry out, and then reattaching it. It would shorten the paddle about an inch or so. But I'm sure there's a better way to do it out there.
