Here is my two cents... I have paddled everything mentioned so far , but some more than others and some more recently, which means all my opinions are...suspect? I own a Caption and believe it is the best of the lot. I understand yarnallboat's feelings about not supporting Confluence. I don't know t...

I'll second what Isaac said...The Cedar race is a great early season, low key race where us open boaters are made to feel welcome. I live in Montana and have been to the Cedar race 4 of the last 5 years. OC turnout varies from 3 or 4 to 8 or 10. Try for next year if you can't make it this time. Some...

Spence, Where are you skiing in Montana? I live in Western Montana and would be glad to help you combine some paddling along with the turns. If we continue to have mild winter days in the valleys I will be getting out regularly to prepare for a slalom race near Seattle, the first weekend of March. I...

I'd have to agree with 'msims'... I still think it is THE boat and you don't sound timid about the swimming, so go for it! My height and weight are a match of yours and the Ocoee is enough of a platform. You'll love those edges for eddy turns and surfing. I went from a Caper to a Millbrook Defiant (...

I have not paddled a viper too often but it is a nice boat. The Ocoee is faster than the Tareau, Zoom and Detonator. I think it would be close to the same speed as the Viper. If you are 170 pounds or less the Zoom would be a good choice. I have paddled the Spark for slalom races and it is excellent ...

My first true whitewater canoe was a Caper... I bought it with the intention of using it for solo and tandem but for most of it's history with me, it was only rigged solo. After buying a Millbrook Defiant, I rigged the Caper with 2 Mohawk saddles after tearing out the solo saddle. I paddled it tande...

That is a tough question.... back a few weeks, I mentioned on the forum about the first time a did any damage to my Defiant. It was a diime size chunky crack on the stern after doing a pour over on the Lochsa River in Idaho. I think the Millbrook boats hold up very well. I own an Ocoee and the two b...

I am 6'3" and usually around 195lbs. I have a Defiant which is a great boat but I have paddled a Rumba and thought it was a more than enough of a plateform. As I have said here quite often, it will probably be one of my next boats.... or the Spark. Though it would be nice to be under 180... that muc...
