Re: Helmet Advice

The Gath Gedi beak hasn't 'rolled up the rim' in my rolls in a kayak or in a canoe but it's a fair comment. My other initial concern was the split, two piece overlap, design that creates a more flexible integrity, held together by a pop rivet. I'm not a steep creakier so haven't submitted myself, my...

Re: Helmet Advice

I'm not a steep creaker, in fact I "only" tripped and fell at the put in for 8 stitches and 2 blackeyes. Steep put-inner? With a 7 5/8 inch head I reloaded and bought a Gath Gedi model, XXL. I like it. (Edit: I just checked and the helmet is triple-x rated in size for 7 5/8 = XXXL . I liked the Swee...

Re: More exciting times for canoeing!

I loved the composite Occoee's that showed up on the Blackwater River, MT at the Slalom Nationals years ago.
A really fun boat, with more acceleration and speed, on top of all the original Occoee qualities.
Production is a great idea.

Covert Dealer in Canada?

Thanks It has interesting lines. The closest friends 'Covert' is 6 hrs drive from Vancouver so it is tough to sample. If anyone in the PNW has one that an experienced OC'er can demo (in a friendly no damage fashion) that would be much appreciated. Bottles of wine as a thank you? Phillip Prince has t...

Amazing

Amazing. Through the initiative of a few creative individuals we can now round up to a discussion on the variety of new canoe designs, in new materials, about hulls that are actually in the water and that are actually changing technique and limits. "Things change slowly, then... all of a sudden" Mer...

"Have Option, will travel. Wire Ken, Mass." Gunsmoke-circa 1950's The new designs by Smerda and Lauks are a great fit for B.C. but... have had slow acceptance, freight costs et al and... "news by example" has travelled slowly to our B.C. corner. It has taken a few souls with brave cash to take advan...

Re: BC Whitewater

Nope, "cheers" didn't cut it.
Instead work on including an "eh" at the of each sentence, and say "sorry" all the time even if it is the other guys fault.

Visiting in the rainy season before buying is brilliant.
Let us know when your coming.

sponsored content: Remix'ed Realty- relocating washed up OC'ers our specialty . Pat and Pierre have summed it up for locations and rivers. B.C. has rivers, it's a giant theme park, 140% larger than California ...but with only the population of metro San Fran (Approx. 4 mil) What it doesn't have is O...

Re: Your Favorite Road Trip Vehicle

Agree on the engine size. There is not much difference in gas $ between my half ton 2009 GMC 4.8L and my Hyundai 3.3L when I haul 2 canoes, at least not enough to care about. The further the drive the smaller the difference. One big plus when shopping for a 2nd hand van is the older models have rain...

Grand Ronde boatable flow

Hi Carole I don't have the numbers, sorry, but when I took my wife down it on a Cat raft I was thinking that this would be a great canoe run. Friends in a tandem were having all the fun. But on that run it was running High, Above Average. My "thoughts" is that at lower levels it would pick up in tec...

Welcome

Welcome. Canoeing by nature is often a collaborative sport and that leads to making friendships that last a lifetime. Shuttle drives, weekend campfires, and mutual safety really helps in getting to know people. The Mentorship comment is right on, try and paddle with paddlers better than you and obse...

Seymour Canyon descent, North Vancouver

Caleb ran the Seymour Canyon, our local urban creek in North Vancouver, B.C., yesterday. As far as we know, it has only been done once before OC, by Tyler Elm in the '90's. It is a real typical West Coast test piece: narrow, no exiting, sharp granite, blind drops & continuous. Very cool. His hull wa...

Re: Interesting Question from a Long Time Paddling Friend

Started at 40, the usual beginning, messing around in long boats, picking up skills for camping and tripping. But, alas, fell in with a bad crowd of ww oc'ers and got the bug, bad. Always continuously paddled since then, running gr 4 one bite at a time, but realistically, just a comfortable 3+'er in...
