Must make room in the garage for more recent acquisitions by finding a good home for an original Torrent slalom C-2. Finding someone who would actually use the boat is more of a concern than getting much in the way of $$$. Make me an offer; I won't be offended.
Would make a fun boat for a lightweight adult paddler to introduce children to WW or for a pair of more experienced older children to explore paddling C-2 together. Original design weight limit for both paddlers was 285 lbs., although it was paddled by heavier teams (see below).
The Torrent was briefly the HOT slalom C-2 for lighter teams when designed in the winter of 1983 at Penn State by a group of C-2M paddlers led by John Sweet (and including yours truly). The design was paddled by U.S. C-2 Team Members Dave Paton & Al Blanchard during the 1983 race season, including the 1983 World Championships, as well as by several top C-2M teams.
This specific Torrent was one of the first three boats out of the mold and was paddled for only one year by the C-2M team that won the Nationals the following year paddling this boat's cousin, the slightly larger Torrent XL. Lightweight composite Kevlar/glass/Vinylester layup with carbon fiber rib reinforcements. Some cracks on the hull & on the stern deck & seams that have been well repaired by the original builder. About 6 inches of both the bow and the stern, as well as the wings were removed in the mid-80s to turn it into a "playboat," but never used as such.
The boat is outfitted with original aluminum thwart seats suspended from the underside of the deck and ethafoam bulkheads (no straps or strap anchors). However, if pedestal seats are desired, the thwarts can be easily removed (4 bolts for each thwart) and pedestals installed. I just did this in a couple of hours with the stern seat in my only slightly younger Torrent XL, which had an identical thwart seat arrangement. (Although I'm 75 lbs. heavier than when I built the boat, my old school legs still fit under the thwart seats; however, my oldest son with size 13 feet was starting to have problems.)
If you're interested, I have pics of the boat that I can share. Just let me know.
John
