Well, I finally made my reservations for the Single Blade Symposium! I've never been to Palmer Rapids, so I'm looking forward to a new town and River...not to mention festival!

I'll likely be staying at Jessup's campground as I'll be car-camping.

Anyone care to share what I might expect from the clinics, or fest in general?

Anyone else going to be there?!

I'll likely bring three boats - two to paddle (Sith for most clinics (Hole playing..the thing I am worst at...), Fanatic II for the slalom clinic, and the Mentor in case anyone wants to see it:)

Adam,

It will be great to see you at Palmerfest! I will be there, too (and so probably most of the single bladers from Ontario that frequent this board), and I also plan on staying at Jessups.

If past editions of Palmer fest are any indication, then the clinics will be great. Tere are usually some well known names among the instructors, like Mark Scriver, Paul Mason, Andrew Westwood, just to name a few.
The fest is a great get-together, with a big party at the coop (admission included), with great paddling films and live music.

The water levels will most likely be great, and tons of other stuff apart from the Madawaska will be running, too!

I second what Martin said except the instructors are bad, the people are horrible, and the party sucks.

Just kidding ... It will be great to meet another person from this board.

It is really worth the money just for the clinics alone and the party / film festival / band are great!

But be warned the water is still on the cool side and you will be surrounded by the double bladers.

Don't forget to stop at the duty free on the way up ... rumour has it that Martin likes a 60oz (1.75 liter) of "Absolute" vodka

Doug Mcknight and I are planning to attend. Hoping to hook up with all the Canadians we have paddled with at the two ALF's. Camping at the boathouse?? We will be paddling a zoom, ocoee and a blast. Planning to paddling Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Guys, if we are a large group of S1ngl3 bladerz we can reserve a 'group' campsite - I think we somehow have to get in touch w/ Jessup.

The group camsites are a little nicer/closer to the water.

Interest? Who else is coming?

Group campsite sounds great for two guys from Indiana who have never paddled in the area. So if someone does reserve a group site could you include myself (David Swingley) and Doug McKnight

everyone,
i've been up to PalmerFest/SBS the last couple of years and it was awesome.
sadly i forgot to renew my passport this year and they will not allow you across the border now.
we were suppose to have a booth setup and nothing now.

good times and people.
the whole festival enviorment is a refreshing change to some local ones.
the instructional classes taught by big name people was worth the drive , let alonethe paddling and festival
.
everything is self contained in the area except for the rodeo/freestyle classes which is held at Hass Hole, which is a 20 minute drive away from the festival.
you need to make your own arrangments for shuttle. but is well worth the drive.

i do have a favor to ask thought, if anyone from the Midwest or East Coast is going up.
there is a booth that sells these blue plastic barrels and harness that the use for Portages.
if any one could get one for me that would be greatly appreciated,i forgot to get one before i left last year.
i will enclosed a pic of them

I believe that until 2009 you can still cross in and out of Canada (as well as Mexico, and parts of the Carribbean) with a drivers license and copy of your birth certificate....

So join us if you can!

Sir Adam is right, while a passport is needed for air travelers, if you travel by sea or land a drivers licence and birth certificate are still sufficient (at least in 2008).

And Colin, you are slightly mistaken on the vodka, I do actually personally prefer some fine single malts, preferably the Islay ones, but when I have my friends from BC visiting, who value quantity and volumetric alcohol content more than quality, then Absolut vodka is definitely an appropriate beverage...

I'll have half my fleet with me (as many as will fit my roofrack as well as the back of my truck, so you will definitely be able to take the Prelude out for a test paddle.
As far as I know Mark Scriver may even have a brand new Esquif Prelude there as demo boat.
