C1 for Heavy paddlers

Post by mtnfir »

Hey all, I've been paddling oc1 for about 10 years now. I am considering the possiblity of switching to C1. I currently paddle a mad river outrage x. I weigh about 255. Are there any c1s that could handle my massiveness? If so, what are they?
Thanks

Carl, what type of boating? River running, river/playing, or creeking? I have a few C1 available for heavy paddlers , with new straps and outfitting. Let me know. John

I just got introduced to creeking and loved it. For the most part I've been running Section 9 of the french broad, the nanty, and the pigeon.

Dude,

A Cascade would be great for an old, new, and large, creeker. Enjoy. There is also a guy on the board trading an Atom for a 11' canoe, what could an extra foot hurt?

At 255 a Cascade would not be big enough as a creeker I think. An atom? no way as a creeker at 255lbs. . A hahn like Kaz said is a BIG boat. Charlie Walbridge is about 255lbs / 6' 2" I believe and creeks a modified hahn ( 11 1/2 feet long) on just about anything.

A Modified Czech is even bigger than a Hahn, and you can have a 10"- 12" saddle with no problem.

The Atom's not a creeker in the first place.

I am 220 on a good day and I have been paddling a Hahn (actually borrowing Charlie Walbridge's for a test drive), its a good boat, creeks or big water, very stable, but heavy, a good river runner, not much of a playboat.

That doesn't mean it's the best boat for the job, especially not for someone who weighs 255 pounds, even if it might work for you

Would a remix 79 be a little small ya'll? worth a try for sure if you stumble along one. If you like its size it rocks.
Watch out; that river has rocks on the bottom. :o

Jefe Grande and Remix 79 convertions or a Pyranha Everest convertion, I know people heavier than you (by maybe 30lb or more) who paddle the everest and get on with it really well.

I've only seen one Everest and when parked next to my Spanish Fly, it looked like it had comparable volume! That's a big boat - I'd thgink it is worth a try.
