Taureau modifications

Post by slomoracing »

I recently purchased a used L'Esquif Taureau and after paddling it realized I didn't like some things about it. First of all the outfitting was not attached to the top of the boat, this might seem like a minute point but when you lean, the outfitting would give a bit and before the boat responded. Second, water would get trapped in the front area and when attempting to pick it up and drain it on the shore and wouldn't come out. Third, it was a pain in the butt to get air bags and other stuff into the stern or bow. So I fixed it...

I doubt you'd be able to tell a difference... It's already plenty wet if you don't boof every little wave.

To remedy the same problems I had on my Taureau I poured 2 part 2 oz. marine foam in the bow and stern plus I added a drain plug. I also experienced foot entrapment so I modified the top of the decks to prevent it from happening.

I cut out a U-shaped section of the deck behind each of the foot pegs. I have photos somewhere and will attempt to post them; attemp is the key word here.

I have taken my modified Taureau out three times since I cut the deck. I totally dig the access and the amount of water I take on is not even an issue. I did install a pump because my local run is a big water run and pulling over to bail at the good flows is not an option.
I cut my deck by tracing the curve of the deck on thick paper and then removing two inches from the center of the paper and then taping it down. I then followed the paper with my jigsaw. I cleaned up the edges with a razor blade. Now I have some spare plastic for welding!
