Ohiopyle and the Yough OC park and play?

Post by atcq »

Any recommended park and play spots on either Ohiopyle or the Yough at this time of year. Going to be in the area this week and looking to take advantage, would love to get a taste of either of these famous rivers but it'd just be me so I'd rather not do a full day run.

Thanks in advance

One word.... "LOOP". Oh and you will not be alone this park / run is high use!

The Loop is a bit over a mile in lenght and the take out is roughly a 1/2 mile (up hill) from the put in.

See attached map... scroll down to bottom for Loop.

http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/ucmprd2/gro ... 003520.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

6 rapids in total.

Start of Loop - Entrance Rapid has a small "doughnut" hole at the top and the bigger "Nemo's" 1/2 way (main and river left). From then on there are bunch of options.

Just ask a local to tag along to play on a whole folks are very friendly. You can spend the entire day on the Loop if you work it! Have fun!

NP! When you heading there? There are a number of OC / C friendly retired guys that do daily laps on the Loop... along with the local guides sneaking runs in between work. You'll have no problem hooking up!

Oh... if the levels are right you can also drop the falls and the 2 rapids above.

Depending on how things shake out either Tuesday or the weekend. Picking up the Reaktor advertised in the FS section and trying to see if I can't also pick up a PS Composite helmet while I'm in the area. Not sure about the helmet hence the shakiness with the dates.

Heading down for the weekend, picking up the boat at Riversport and stopping in at PS Composites while I'm down. Very excited to try out the Yough

Big thanks to Chuck, Todd, Scott and Mike for showing me the Loop and of course to Jim for the new boat. If anyone ever finds themselves in the area I highly recommend the run. Really wish I could've stuck around for the race today, I'm sure it was a blast. Thanks again for the hospitality and can't wait to find myself in Southern PA again
