Unknown boat - trying to determine what it is....
Its been semi rebuilt and painted with dark marine paint (light blue original color). Plastic gunwales installed. Its been wrapped but it looks in okay shape other than that...
Serial Number XTCO2474M75A Any thoughts (need to confirm mine)!
Just need to fab some seating and other outfitting to get her back out on the water!

Some sort of Mad River Triple Tough?
The damage doesn't look like FG or Royalex damage. Looks more like a fold crimp in poly sandwich. The mild V-bottom suggests MR.

I'm also thinking either Mad River or Dagger. The name of the boat escapes me at them moment, but it is used as a canoe rental boat frequently around here and I raced in one (mild WW) once. It wasn't pleasant ("pig boat" comes to mind). Freedom? That might be it, but I think the hull is more round in that case.
Nice Superglide mold BTW

XTC comes back as Johnsons Outdoors in HIM database....so Old Towne Canoe of some sort? What's the length?
Re: Unknown boat - trying to determine what it is....
XTC is the manufacturer identification code for Old Town Canoe company. I think it is a Discovery 3 layer polyethylene boat. The plastic deck plates with the integral carry handles also looks like Old Town's design. Is it 16' 9" or 17' 4" in overall length? My guess is that it is the latter. If so, it is a Discovery 174 aka. Penobscot 174 aka. Allagash 174.

Yep the
SOooo I now have two of these beasts. Thanks folks for the thougths!
Hummmmm.... looks like another project and perhaps a canadian trip in the summer of 2012. Hate it when I "have" to do that!
Adam - the mold comes in handy as a work bench! I hate leaving it outside... Now if it can only find its way south! LOL
! Its looks to be a 17' Penobscot (Pete is right on, as is Mikey). I had to do some research and drag other boats out to confirm (note to brother... don't pain boats please).XTC is the manufacturer identification code for Old Town Canoe company

Ironically Paul, I have a Discovery 174 (Penobscot 174) sitting in my workshop that I am attempting to rescue from a trip to the landfill. Heavy, aint she?
Re: Unknown boat - trying to determine what it is....
Sure is Pete... heavier if you have to move 4 to get to one!
Hoping your & my projects work out!
