C1 River runner/playboat recommendations?

I'm looking for something to spice up the familiar runs with and for low water summer paddling. So, a playful design but with some length so it won't be terrible paddling downriver Also, I am looking for something for fairly cheap and readily available, so probably not the Sith or other composite boats I see recommend all the time.

So far I've thought about a fun/4fun, an ez/big ez, or maybe a fluid spice... Any thoughts on those, or others, and sizes... I'm 6' 165lbs and currently paddle a LL Stomper 90 as a C1 or a Blackfly Option.

Look for an old ForPlay - very Sith like actually. But heavier;)

Otherwise, if you can find one, a Wheelboy.

FWIW, since you asked, (and I'm no expert), the EZ series seems to make good C-1s. They are a shade wider than many similar hulls, and it's noticeable in the stability.

For your weight, the Big EZ is prob'ly a good fit. A little short for speed, but very good at bouncing over holes, and very easy to surf. They are predictable but playful, and easy enough to roll. And if you want massive stability, the Super EZ is built like a pancake.

(Did I mention I'm no expert. . . ?)

The WS Score also comes to mind from your description. Same hull has as the ForPlay, but in a bigger size. Pat.

I'll second the EZ series are great C1s. Designed by EJ Jackson when he was also paddling C1.

Not the most current boat out there but a C1 friendly design.

Another thought about the Wave Sport pointy boat family - at your weight, the Score will be very much a surface boat (at 220, I can sink the ends easily). A Forplay would be a good choice - probably pretty predictable. But... a XXX would be a squirt boat! Especially if you squashed the ends...

I have a Big EZ & had a Forplay. The Big EZ is great on a steep wave & stern squirts are effortless. It's V E R Y S L O W as a C-1. I won't run anything harder than the Ocoee in mine & can't make all of the moves that I want to on that river.

The Forplay is faster. It'll surf anything that the Big EZ will, plus waves that are not as steep. The ends are slicey, but not wingy. I think I was down around 190lbs. when I had both boats.

If I remember correctly, the Forplay is a hair wider, so a little more stable. You'll have to slow down your roll in the Big EZ, or you'll just go back over. The Perception AMP is very similar to the Forplay. The same skirt fits all three.

If you can find older boats to convert, try and get a Dagger Medieval (it is comfy wide and flat ends, but the nose comes up so pearling is no issue) or the Riot Disco or Glide (fantastic c-1 boats but the cockpit is skinny).
