Lower Yough This Weekend (8-9th)

Post by kabuki_blaze »

Hey Folks,

I FINALLY got my "new to me" boat, got a sweet deal from Jeff on an Dagger Ocoee.

Is anyone paddling the Lower Yough this weekend? Or interested in paddling in or around the Yough. The Cheat Canyon should still be running (maybe)? I can also paddle during the week if that works..

Cant wait to try out the new boat!

Congrats on the new boat!

If the Cheat's still up on Sunday 8/9, I'd definitely be up for that. May be able to corral some other c-boaters, mayb even PAC.
If not, TOG puts on the LY almost every Sunday between 11-12...that's where'll you'll get a warm welcome.

Hope to C you there!

Thanks! The cheat is up over 6000 CFS right now, what's the lowest you will run it? Lets been in touch as the weekend draws closer.

Also, I am new to the board, who is TOG and how do I find you on the LY?

Hope to meet some C-boaters this weekend!

I am dying to go run the little sandy right now, it wont be running after today, its a hoot.

TOG = Team Old Guy

PAC, you may chime in to expatiate on this? :D

Re min for Cheat Canyon: I d/n know corresponding CFS level to 1.5'+ on Albright gauge, can someone help here?

Li'l Sandy is fun. Lower Big Sandy is funner!

Look for C Boaters and OC'1'ers at put in for LY Sunday at 11am. Walk up to one. Ask if they are TOG member. If answer is yes, you win the lottery. If no, you've likely won a new Cboat friend. I
IMHO, a win-win situation.

Thanks for the welcome, I am Eastern Tenn usually once a year visiting family.

TOG, gotya, I have seen that reference around and some videos!

Your plan sounds good to me, if we don't do the cheat I will run up to the LY on Sunday.

Thanks!

Always good to C more canoes (open or decked) on the water. There were some good sized pods out this weekend along with one-eeze and two-eeze on the LY.
Keep us posted - not sure if I can spring for a long day on Sunday but Sat ... hummmmm!

Nice!

Tony B. So I assume you are paddling Saturday and Sunday?

How many folks do you have? Do the permits have the time? I don't mean to sound like a neophyte, I just never had to go through this permit process, I have been down the LY about 100 times. I used to work on the river and would always jump in with companies or friends of companies for years...So this launch permit thing is new to me!

I hope to paddle both days, although I was thinking of hitting the cheat if is running one of those days.

I am going to work on my bilge system tonight, get it ready for the weekend!

Permits cab be gotten online or at put in for 3 bucks. They give you an hour window to put on. Certain times go quicker than others. Hence our 8-9 put in. Bus pass will be needed if doing whole lower to get up to parking lot. Paddling both days prob just loop on Sunday. Travel day.
There's two open boats going out, ones a first timer so we may paddle with buttboatin buddies if we can't meet other single stickers.
