Air Bags, post Gaia
I'm looking for a set of bags for a Shacho, 54 and 48ish. I like the old lightweight Voyageur bags. Anyone selling anything similar? What about those NRS bags? Anyone using them?

NRS had some problems with air bags until they came out with the Infinity bags.
I had a set in my Aftershock which never let me down. I don't have the Aftershock anymore but I still have the bags waiting for their next boat. when I bought the Infinity bags they came with a lifetime warranty.

Did you check with Kaz? I just picked up two sets from him and am very happy with them so far.

I bought some lightweight Harmony bags recently from NOC. They claim to be a military grade nylon. They are 54". Someone told me that they are the old Voyageur bags, but I don't know.
I traded them to Ed Powers for some 48" Gaia bags that filled out my Stinkeye better. Ed was talking about putting them in his Shacho but I think right now he has them in is new light Ledge.
Those bags are really light, 1 lb each, but also expensive, $100 each. They seem solid. Didn't feel fragile.

I have some of the light bags. They are much more sensitive to cold temps, so they deflate easily. Because they go down I take them out to travel more than an hour. Otherwise it is nice having 1 pound airbag. They have a very short stem, so a little hard to adjust when they are on the rack on in the truck. The long Gaia stems were very helpful for adjusting the airbags.

He had a set of old Voyageur bags, and I also picked up a Gaia set. My theory is either their parent company will back the warranty, or they won't and I'll be repairing them. Having seen so many companies come and go I have no problem purchasing a "good" product and using it for it's useful life (and then stringing it along far longer than I probably should with repairs
). I think we as paddlers sometimes expect more from our gear (and boats) than is realistic. As the folks at IR said, how many years do you get out of a pair of pants? Your <insert paddling gear here> gets a lot more abuse than they do, and yet folks expect it to last LONGER.
I also personally like to deal with Kaz, as he's such a great part of our community, both here in the virtual world and more importantly in the real one on the water.

I have quite a few pairs of the old urethane nylon Voyageur bags. I also have a couple of urethane nylon bags from Harmony Gear and as far as I can tell they are identical in every way except the markings. Harmony sells the 48" bags and the 60" bags direct: http://www.harmonygear.com/subcategory/ ... ormat/html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I was at NOC a couple of weeks ago and did not see any 54" nylon bags there.

I should add I picked up a 60" and 48" sets... so I have not idea if he had any 54" sets, or what he has in stock at this point.

Thanks for the help everyone. It's just what I was looking for. I'll check with Kaz first and if he doesn't have them, NOC shows them online.
Cheers.

Which manufacturer is making Mohawk's bags these days? The bags I've purchased from Mohawk in the past have been super durable. They're a bit on the heavier side, but, personally, I much prefer dealing with the extra weight over dealing with the punctures, broken stems, and quick release valve failures that I've routinely experienced with other bags.

Kaz...just curious - do you know if Gaia will honor the everlast warranty even though they aren't marketing the bags any more?kaz wrote:The 54's are gone. Thanks Paul.
