Are there any good places to paddle in the Pheonix/Tempe area in AZ?

Come late feburary thru early may (and during occasional mid summer monsoons). The Salt about 2 hours east of Pheonix is top notch boating. pool drop III's and a few IV's make it a fine run with excellent play spots at certain levels. Run lengths vary from a 7 mile daily to a 50+ mile wilderness run (permit required). The Apache tribe charges you about 10 bucks or so a day to paddle and car camp on the day section (a fee that Colorado Paddlers still locked in winter mode have never bitched about paying) enjoy! oh yea the Verde offers marginal boating in those times too... a little closer to Phoenix and a little easier water make it a good 18 mile day run with hotsprings at the takeout...inquire at AW.com
