chopping a Royalex boat
Once upon a time, Scott Broam had a Mohawk Viper 12 that he beat the bejesus out of. It is now in my backyard, stripped of all hardware, gunwales, and thwarts. I've decided to cut the middle 24-30" out of the boat and re-attach the two ends. I hope to end up with a highly rockered, narrow, 9.5 ft boat. My question is this--How do I join the two ends in a sound, waterproof way?

First off, I have never done this myself, but I have seen chopped royalex boats (Ocoees) before.
They were joined both on the inside and outside by a wide (probably ~10 inches) strip of kevlar. I have no Idea what resin was used (i would guess epoxy), and how the surfaces were prepared, i.e. wether the vinyl; was removed or not.

I bought a chopped down Ocoee. The joining seam has been glassed overed (fibreglass, kevlar, carbon, etc) inside and out. I think some of the ABS material was thinned so that the glass patch is somewhat smooth on the outside. Martin's 10" strip sounds about right.
100% water proof.
Good luck.
