Spark outfitting

Post by Bob P »

Fools rush in. Almost all the hardware is mounted on PVC angle glued to the hull. Seems to work well - so far.

Bob; Fantastic job on the Spark! So, where did you get the seat and what kind of glue did you use to bond the PVC brackets to the hull? Thanks Jack

The seat is my own design - same as I use in my C1 and OC1 Short race boat. I'd hate to tell you how much the materials in the seat cost - there are about 6 layers of Graphite and 3 layers of Kevlar in it. :o I use a male/female compression mold techniique so the seat still doesn't weigh much. I just loaned the mold out to some guy named McEwan for his C2 'cause I don't have the time to make the seats myself. Maybe after the Nats...

For glue, I use a combination of VC-2 commercial vinyl cement and the standard vinyl adhesive I got with the D-ring pads. I also cleaned and sanded everything before the glue. I was a little afraid of how the PVC would bond because it didn't seem to soften like the skin on the boat, so I tried a test piece first. The bond is almost as strong as the material itself.

Gotta go and test the boat some more now. :D
