Will,
i'll be there, so there's at least 2 of us. talk to harry fields too if you get a chance and convince him to go. it's been lonely down there the last couple years, racing against no one but people with 2 blades that can beat me with their eyes closed. i talked to IR and they are going to provide us with the racing bibs this year, so we don't have to use the homemade pieces of sh-t that i came up with last year. it would be nice if we could somehow get a prize together for the fastest person, the fastest c-boater, and the fastest woman. it's hard to get a prize donated by kayak companies when they're not invited (or allowed) at the festival. maybe we need to start collecting donations for the prizes now, I'd be willing to kick in some cash to get the ball rolling. by the way, congrats on the oh-be-joyful race, that's definitely the best showing of a c-boater in any extreme downriver race i've heard of in the past few years. (reminds me of when andy bridge kicked everyone's butt in the russell fork race and came in 3rd place, beating everybody but the 2 people in wavehoppers.) for those of you who want to come race, it's free, and the RF Rendezvous is probably the best party in the whitewater community (it's not just an outdoor mall like some of these other "festivals"). also don't forget about the gauley race the monday before RF. it's a grueling race (about an hr long and it feels like flatwater the whole way), but they give great prizes, i won a $400 patagonia dry top last year for being the only c-boater. hope to see you at the gauley in a few weeks (i'm schedule to work a lot of the release weekends in sept, so i may only be there on fridays or mondays.)
