FLATWATER OFFSIDE CARTWHEEL AND STERN SQUIRT

Post by gerry »

Can anyone give me some tips on how to perform flatwater offside cartwheels and stern squirts.
Cartwheel
I can get the stern to bury with a reverse double pump and bring my bow around for a but stall out when the bow hits the water.
Stern Squirts
I am trying them by doing a circle towards my offside but can,t get the stern to fully bury with a cross draw and tilt to the aft on side corner.

Offside Cartwheeling:

I do as much of a double pump as I can without taking a stroke. I rock the stern down and then I smash my bow while I move my paddle into position like I'm going to do a cross duffek. Instead of initiating my paddle with the shaft perpendicular to the water, however, I plant the blade with the shaft much more parallel to the water's surface.

I find that I can initiate the boat without a paddle stroke at all and sometimes that allows me to better keep my weight centered and keep my cartwheels on one plane.

Is your offside for squirting the same edge as your offside for cartwheels? I find it easier to initiate stern squirts on the side opposite my "on side" using a little momentum, a stern pry on my onside, and a well-practiced lean.

Thanks for the offside cartwheel tip. I will try it out in the pool next week.
As for the offside stern squirt, I am trying to duplicate the motions to perform it on an eddy line. I can easily squirt on my on side in flatwater due to the extra torque available but have difficulty on my offside.

Try to start your off-side cartwheels from a splitwheel. This helps with controlling your rotation and verticality.
