has anyone tried paddling with hand paddles?

i had a stint where i crushed my knuckle. as it was healing i used hand paddles to paddle local creeks (green etc.) it lasted about 1.5 months befor i ran some BIG drops. it allowed me to catch lots of air. i don't do it much now that i can use my paddle, but it was fun.
