OC1 durability
by Craig Smerda
If steep and rocky is what you do the most I would recommend the Prelude if only for the sake of durability. There are a lot of good boats out there that have very similar characteristics, but the Prelude is the only one that is rotomolded....hence it will last you more than one season of abuse. Just a question..,what was it about the SPFly that you didn't like? I creek in it and find the boat ideal..lots of rocker, stable and controllable when full.

Spanish Fly and other
by Paolo
I creeked pretty well in the spanish but I want a traditional design boat; also the spanish is a lot wet... i've seen traditional OC1 dryer.
The problem with plastic is it's a lot havier than abs, but i never paddled an abs canoe so i don't know how this material perform... which is the stronger's percentage of the plastic vs the abs? 50% stronger?, 20% stronger? other?
Thanks
Paolo

Strength vs weight
by Craig
Rotomolding is stronger, more durable, but does have a slight weight penalty.

ABS is more flimsy, wears easily, but is a little lighter.

Now figure this though..add 6 inches of water into a Prelude vs. any other ABS boat on the market (you get water inside creeking) and figure out which will be more controllable, safer, and easy to roll.

I support Pyranha for many reasons, but the biggest one is the fact that they are offering the general public a canoe which will be around for more than a few years of abuse. Other major manufacturers don't seem to be interested in doing that yet.
